Default Girls weekend - Palm Springs?

My BFF and I meet up once a year, usually in the fall, for a girls weekend. We have gone to Chicago, Vegas, and Seattle so far. Maybe one other place, I can't remember. She's pretty go-go-go on vacation, and this time I would like to truly just relax. I'm considering Palm Springs because it will still be warm, it's cheap-ish for both of us to travel there, there are lots of nice resorts with nice spas and etc. I have read a couple of reviews for things to do there with kids, but I'm wondering if there is anything to do there as adults? Good shopping, or something? It would be totally fine for me to never get out of a pool chair, honestly. I got food poisoning last year on our trip, so it was pretty miserable. Hoping for a better time this year! Thoughts?

ETA: Also open to fun alternative destinations!

    Casinos. Golf.

But seriously, the aerial tram. Joshua Tree.

What about Phx/Scottsdale? I love the desert botanical museum and the musical instrument museum is supposed to be great.

If you're just doing a weekend, Palm Springs is great. It is mostly laying by the pool or other resort activities but there's good shopping and nice restaurants. The Parker and Ace Hotels are supposed to be fantastic but since we just go there to see my parents (plural now!), we stay where we can spread out more as a family. We usually stay at the JW Marriott. It has an adult pool and fun restaurants but probably not the luxurious scene you'd want for a girls' weekend.

Palm Springs (downtown) is really nice and laid back for strolling, if you like that sort of thing. Agree with Joshua Tree (but there are places closer to PS to hike too), and there are always the Cabazon outlets if you are feeling up for that. Lots of spas, too. We used to do girls' weekends in PS when I lived in LA and it's a good place to do nothing...but your go-go friend should be able to find things she likes too.
