I'll start off the new thread with a question.

With DDs health issues, we are back and forth with specialists a lot. A 2 hour appt can easily mean 7 hours of our day, so eating out is inevitable. Any suggestions for restaurants that have lower carb but affordable options would be great!

Any chain restaurants should have plenty of salad options. Add a lean protein like grilled chicken, skip any nuts, cheese, or "crunchies" (like tortilla strips or the like), and ask for dressing on the side. Dip the very tip of your fork tines in the dressing before spearing each bite, so you get the flavor but not the gazillion fat calories.

Good luck! Long days outside the home are my weak spot, so I try to plan ahead and bring lots of healthy snacks so I don't find myself in the "so hungry I can't make good choices" zone.

If you can, packing a little soft cooler with yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cut up veggies/fruit, and if your diet allows even some cheese or peanut butter for protein can be super helpful to keep you from hitting those dreaded hospital vending machines or fast food drive-throughs!

tgr68, that's rough. I would also just stick with salads.

I had my first weigh in this morning since I started back on the shred and I am down 1lb. I am trying not to be disappointed, but I was hoping for more. Blah. I got in 4 days of exercise which was a huge win for me. I went back to my Leslie Sansone on Sat and Sun and exercise was much less painful to get through, so yay for that.

Leslie- that's a great start! And 4 days of exercise is a huge win

I have been slacking the past week and a half. I have to get back in my groove. It's hard....... I go gung ho, then burn out. This has always been my pattern. But I am determined to be successful at weight loss this time around. Even if it takes me a year to lose the weight, I am going to do it darn it!!!!

Leslie- That's a great start!!! Keep it up!!! Don't be discouraged. The numbers are moving!

tgr- I'll echo what sky said. I tend to stick with grilled chicken or salads (without fatty dressings) when we eat out. But I also like to pack a cooler of smaller, cold snacks: Greek yogurt, a protein shake, Swiss cheese, etc. I eat a lot of protein when I'm trying to lose weight, and I find that it really helps.

Despite having two birthday parties this weekend, I think I'm down 3 pounds from last week. I really took it easy on the pizza and cake, and I'm proud of my willpower. I need a new scale, though. Mine says I'm 171 one minute and 163 the next. I have NO clue what I really weigh, but I'm guessing it's around 166. A new scale is on order.

    Thanks, guys!

    Becky, WTG!

stevie, I hear you! I do the same thing every year. In fact, MFP actually shows that I haven't lost any weight yet because I still haven't managed to get to my starting weight from 2012. lol I have literally been up and down over and over again the past three years within 18.5 lbs. I was at my highest weight in May 2014 and I am 12.5lbs from there, so that is GOOD! Accentuate the positives. I just said to my BFF the other day that I originally wanted to lose 40lbs by May and now I will just be happy if I lose 25 by May. It's a marathon, not a race. I know we both can do it!

New scale-my BFF swears by her Fitbit scale. I almost bought one the other day, but I cannot justify spending that much money a scale even if she says it is worth every penny. I like my Fitbit, but I never get to 10,000 steps. I mainly rely on it for the alarm system. I have 7 alarms set to remind me when to eat. Being able to sync my weight from the scale to the Fitbit doesn't seem like a necessity to me, but maybe I am missing something.

I am feeling so yuck. Cellulitey, chunky and gross. I have to make time for some real exercise in my days - just getting to 10,000 steps isn't cutting it and weight is creeping on and I am way jiggly. I was away with DH this weekend and I was so disappointed that I didn't feel better about myself.

    It's.Just.So.Hard. to find/make time.

I'm also still totally struggling with finding/making time to prepare food.

Semily- I understand completely. That's where I'm at with myself too. I am determined for this to be the year I get back into shape. I am going on three weeks now of eating healthy now. This time around I am really concentrating on weights/intervals for exercise. I am just doing 20-30 min 2-3 times per week, but I am really trying to use heavier weights and push myself. And then I am fitting in walks/hikes or cross-country skiing here or there (probably will do some jogging in the spring/summer), but the only workouts I am actually planning are the strength/weights. The other stuff is just a "bonus". I think I am seeing a real improvement with the cellulite and my tummy (which was starting to show some fat for the first time in my life). I think at my age (40) the weights are what I was missing to really help my body and metabolism. Time will tell, I guess! I am feeling pretty good lately though!

I've also been forcing myself to prep a lot of food over the weekend and/or Monday nights. I had a boatload of mason jars, so I am using the 8oz ones to portion out a bunch of fruit and veggies and then I am using the bigger ones to portion out several days worth of salads for lunch (I'll put chicken or turkey on the bottom, then cucumbers, carrots, peppers, etc. in a layer, then lettuce, then a little dressing. Everything has been staying fresh for 4 days. And then I am trying to make healthy dinners, and portion some of the leftovers. I think I finally am getting a system down.

Oh, FFS. Tracking food is the devil. It's 8:23 pm, I just worked out, am ravenous and really want a glass of wine, but I snacked so much after I got home that I only have 100 calories left in the allotment my fitbit gave me (1,520 calories). Why does cheese have so many effing calories in it?!

And I need to stay up late to catch up on work, because work was so busy today I didn't get any of the actual work done that needs to be done.

And my kids are still yakking away in their room.

Pity party over! I am just HANGRY!
