For a cheaper price, I would just do what Robyn did and buy the 4G one and use it for wifi only if it's not compatible with your plan. Although I think you can get data only for tablets if you really wanted to activate it with AT&T.

You can't get the protection plan for the HDX on sale. Damage and parental controls are a big factor in our decision. Thoughts?

We were looking at the kids Kindle Fire. Then thought that the regular HD 16GB with a good case and protection plan would be about the same cost. The HDX is more expensive but if it has a lot more functions.... AAAH. This is supposed to be DH's job to get DD a tablet but he's not home and I went onto Amazon for something else and saw the sales.

Default ipad, ipad Mini, or Kindle Fire

I'm having the same issue on the protection plan ... I had a good deal on one for the HD7 ... But the HDX seems like such a better deal overall.

And I'm torn between giving this to DS - versus saying its for the family ... Versus keeping the HD7. For which I just cancelled the warranty i had bought on sale .... I should be working instead of thinking about this

Never mind. I just read back in the thread and saw that wifi only is $60 more. I think it will be much more economical to get the regular one. This is for DD and she does not need a fancy tablet.

Ha. I'm texting DH and now he says if we all want to use it he'd rather get the HDX. I'll welcome any further thoughts and then pass the decision to him.

Default ipad, ipad Mini, or Kindle Fire

At the end of the day, I think the HDX is such a better deal - I'm sticking with it. We can set up profiles for each family member. This will be a family kindle fire. (In theory at least!). I got the HD7 on sale for $99 - but that's with 16 Gb. I thought that was good, but for another $60, I'm thinking the qualities of the HDX make it better long term. I think. . (Sorry I'm thinking out loud here - DH is no help with this stuff! ).

    Anyone else have input?

FWIW, I have a 64G ipad and I would never buy a 16G anything if you do any kind of traveling with kids. Just my 2 cents.
