Default I'm starting couch to 5K - anyone want to join me?

I was a total non-runner when I did the c25k. Start now because often it does take more than 9 weeks - you can repeat weeks. Just take it slow - don't try to run too fast or you'll get injured. You should be able to talk easily.

The app gets you to run 30 minutes NOT run a 5k (most beginners don't run a 5k in less than 30 minutes).

Have fun! You can do it!

If I can do c25k anyone can do it! Trust me! As a kid I could never run a mile when we had to do it at school.

Thanks for the encouragement. Is there an app I should use then that does do running a 5k and not 30 min? I dint think this race expects kids to run it in 30 min, but my kid and hers can both run fast so who knows!

Good shoes! Just because they are Asics or Nike doesn't mean anything if the are the wrong shoe. Go to someplace like Dick's or a running store and get properly fitted for a middle distance shoe.

bug - DD did a run program last fall and very few of the kids were able to run the full 5K without taking walk breaks. Hopefully that's encouraging

I have the same attitude as you bug - running is for being chased by a killer. DH has a similar attitude although not as strong and 2 summers ago he did a couch to 5K program just to prove he could and to show DS how practice can make you better even when you don't like it. His first step was to get shoes - he went to a running store and got properly fitted and tried on a bunch of pairs (and came home with these hideously bright neon green shoes). Then he printed out a schedule that he found online. He never used an app on his phone, except the timer I think. It took him longer than the 9 weeks and he didn't finish with a race, but he did run 5K straight. And then hasn't run since Good luck!

I was a complete non-runner when I did couch to 5k. I agree to definitely take it slow. My goal was to finish a 5k, I didn't care about my time. I think it took me three or four months to get up to running a 5k straight but I am completely unathletic. I've done a ton of 5k's and there's always people walking if you don't feel like you can run the whole thing by then - but you'd probably be able to.

Well I did week 1. I didn't do it Fri or Sat but last night I ran for 10 min straight, which is unheard of for me. So that's pretty cool and by run, I really mean jog. It was slow, but I did it. That's not part of the time to run yet, I just thought I'd see if I could. I did 15 min on elliptical and ran 10 and walked 5.

    Awesome job bug!
To me "jog" is a 4 letter word. You ran, no matter what your pace was!

Thursday is my 3 year anniversary of starting C25K for the second time (I did it fall of 2011 and ran 3 5Ks but didn't run from February 2012 until March 2013). I didn't actually run a 5K race until September, but was up to 6.22 miles by then. And then I ran 20 races in 2014. 2015 was less than a stellar year and the beginning of this year has been awful, but I ran a 3 mile race yesterday and the itch is back! I feel like I am starting from scratch, but that is okay. I need to order another metal holder for all the bling!
