The HSG is not that bad. I did have some bad cramping during mine, but took ibuprofen before hand. I was a little shakey afterwards, but nothing that didn't go away within 15 minutes. Some people have no cramping or anything. I think there's a bunch of threads on HSG.

My HSG wasn't bad at all. That said, I did read the HSG thread here beforehand and it kind of freaked me out. But mine wasn't even as bad as taking my breath away. Setting the speculum was the most uncomfortable part and that is more like a pap.

For me it was painful but the pain was brief. The dye being injected was the part that hurt for me, like a really strong cramp/contraction feeling, but as soon as the dye started to go through the tubes the pain quickly subsided. I took ibuprofen beforehand too.

For me the anticipation was the worst part. I didn't have any pain or cramping at all. I noticed a slight discomfort when the dye actually went in but it was brief. I did take ibprofen before just in case. I did not have any blockages.

My HSG was very uncomfortable, but that was because the first-year resident had trouble "finding" my cervix. He actually asked me if I'd ever had trouble locating it. I was like, where would it go?

I just had an HSG today, and it was much easier/better than I expected. I've had a colpo before, too, and I'd probably put them at the same level in terms of discomfort; if anything, the colpo might have been a little worse/more painful. As I said in the HSG thread, I've had PAP smears that were worse than the HSG.

DH and I are ready to start ttc again. The first time around we dealt with male factor and finally got pg after surgery to fix a varicocele, several rounds of meds & IUI. So where do we start this time? Do we need to see the RE again? Should we schedule a sperm analysis to see where we stand? You would think after already going through this I would know where to start but I feel clueless again.

I would probably schedule an analysis and go from there. Actually I would call my RE's office and ask for their advice, but my guess is that's what they will suggest.

I agree, call your RE and start there instead of monkeying around on your own first. I bet they start with an SA.

The good news is that you don't have to go through the heartbreak of diagnosis and month after month of wondering what's going on. Good luck!
