    Default Pregnancy rookie questions

I'm not pregnant, but this can be the TTC rookie thread version for pregnancy.

hehe, I forgot I started this thread. I started it when a friend of mine found out she was pg and had a million questions. Obviously, she hasn't posted yet

    I'll ask a question though:

Is it normal to lose weight during the first trimester? I think she's lost about 6 or 7 pounds so far and she hasn't even been throwing up

    I lost 10 lb. I don't think it's all that uncommon.

I lost between 6-10lbs during the first tri. It's pretty common. Even if she's not throwing up she might be having food aversions.

Aaah, the irony! I was just wondering last week why there wasn't an equivalent to the TTC Rookie Questions thread! Would someone please tell me what's the difference between a "bloody show" and losing a "mucous plug"? Aren't they one in the same because when you lose your mucous plug it causes a bloody show? If not, could an experienced CC'er elaborate? Thanks!

I've lost my mucous plug without having bloody show. The mucous plug was just a big glob of, well, mucous. Later I lost a bit more that had a tiny bit of blood, but the first large bit had no blood.

The mucous plug and bloody show are not the same thing, but can appear close to the same time. The mucous plug can become dislodged any time in the last few weeks of pregnancy, and bloody show is caused by small capillaries in the cervix breaking when the cervix thins and/or dilates.
