Default Lab pg tests vs. home pg tests

I went for a pg test at a lab today, and they only did a urine test, not a blood test. Does anyone know how different a lab test is from just POAS at home? TIA!

I don't think there is any difference, except they charge your insurance company over $100 for a $10 test. If you get a negative and you still think you're pg, insist on a blood test. I had several tests come up negative when in fact I was pg. It came to the point that when I would go in for a test, I'd tell them that they do come up neg for me and needed blood work immediately.
I may be wrong about the POAS test at the dr, but I've had a few dr's tell me there is no difference.
    HTH. Good luck to you.

I don't think there is much difference. I can tell you that I had positive HPT and when I went to the dr. his was negative. As you can tell from my Avatar, the HPT was correct in my case. The blood test confirmed it! HTH

I too got a pretty nice dark line on an Answer HPT and got a negative on the doctor's urine test. (My blood test was positive). Anyway, I don't think the doctor's urine tests are near as sensitive as the best HPT.

I think the doc's HPT's are way less sensitive than our HPTs. At least the good HPTs.

Hmmm... thanks ladies. I think maybe he just went with urine since I'd mentioned that I should invest in some pg test stock since I'm spending so much $$$. lol. If they say neg tomorrow, I'll ask if I can go in for a blood test.

    Thanks!

When I got a BFP from a HPT I immediately called my OB's office expecting them to ask me to come in right away for a blood test. They said..."nope, if you got a BFP on a HPT that's just as good as any test we would do."

WEll, it was a BFN. I have an appointment next week, and I might end up with a referral to a specialist. Sigh. Maybe I'll pick up an HPT.... sore nips, today is CD46, tired, cranky... OTOH, it could just be Christmas... lol. What would you do? Test away? I'm spending far more $$$ on this that I said I would, hee hee.

Thanks again for your imput ladies, you're all so helpful, even when I have a silly question!

Congrats on the marathon Twylla! My friend worked the marathon that day and said it was crowded (and fun) as usual. How did it go for you?

About the lab test. My dr did a preg test (urine) for me 2 weeks ago and it looked just like the ones that you buy at the store (pee on a stick). They charged my insurance $27.

Good luck with the TTC, I'd ask your Dr for a blood test when you go in next week. I'm seeing the dr next week also , lets send each other happy doctor vibes!

If AF is late, I would ask for a blood test. The urine tests at the dr office are exactly like the ones you buy in the store, only they only measure 50miu I believe, where you can buy some that measure much less, meaning you will get a + earlier. (If you know all this, please excuse my babble! )

    Good luck!
