Summary: Would buy it again
Comment: I just bought this unit with the additional HD radio component and I really enjoy it. But before anyone says that they were misled into believing that the DEH-4000UB comes with HD radio, it does not, that is a package deal that costs slightly more (like $30ish). Some of my comments on this review are in regards to HD radio, disregard if it doesn't apply.
Many folks are giving the P4000 low ratings because they find the interface and control knob confusing. OK, follow the instructions on how to set it up (audio/balance/EQ/etc.) Once that's done (and it's not difficult), hopefully you won't need to constantly adjust those options, and the hard part is over. Operating it is really no more challenging than any other electronic device.
Regarding HD, I have had minimal issues with it cutting out to analog, but that may just be the market I'm in (Seattle). By the way, HD isn't High Definition, it's Hybrid Digital. I think that was stroke of marketing genius on someone's part since people assume nowdays HD defaults to high definition. Like cable tv, you either get it or you don't, and when you do, it's fuzz free. I love it. Tune it to your normal station frequency, and it will lock into HD if it's provided by the station, and the HD2 sister station is one right click away.
I don't run an ipod on this unit, but I do use a flash drive. Moving from file to file can involve some click throughs, but I don't know how else that could be accomplished, and I would argue any other USB enabled unit is going to present the same process unless it comes with a touch screen interface (?).
The sound from this system is great, I have Polk speakers front and rear. Installing it was straightforward (for those mechanically inclined), I only had a difficult time determining where to put the HD unit where it would be out of sight.

Comment: I have this unit in my car and i really love it. I never have to make cds anymore. I just bring my flash drive around and load it with music easily, then just plug it in and hear it boom! I love the simple ipod control. If you plug an ipod in the ipod screen goes blank and displays a pioneer logo across the screen. Then you able to control the ipod with the remote or the actual receiver. Im planning to add the HD Radio unit to this so i can listen to those stations too. One other thing i really like is the great controls for you sub woofers. I have my Pioneer TS-W257D4 really perfectly set with the great tweaking options available on this unit. I really recommend it and for the price you get alot of great features.

Comment: Great unit. We bought 2 mainly because of the USB port. No longer do we have 50 CD's all over our cars. We put all the songs on a 1 or 2G thumb drive and plug it in. Pioneer's Supertuner brings in stations more strongly than our old factory radios. I really recommend the thru-amazon dealer we purched the units from as well...first class speedy shipping. 5 stars all-round.

Comment: I was looking for a receiver for my new truck camper and already had the DEH-5000 in my Super Duty.The two-line display of that unit to be too distracting and found that the DEH-4000 had similar controls and specifications, including USB plugin for iPod. Installation was straight forward with clearly written instructions. Yes, you do have to read the manual, some wires were clearly labeled.
Sound seemed equal to the DEH-5000 as the specifications indicated. Great unit, not pricey with good features. Can highly recommend. Vendor shipping was fast, reliable store, would use again. Also has plugins to add satellite or other auxiliary input later.
