Customer Rating: Summary: Comfortable but not the End All/Be All Comment: I have had this backrest now for over a year. I sit in a chair most of my day at work and unfortunately do not have the greatest posture. Immediately, I loved the Obus Forme. As time went on, I still had issues with my posture and it did not relieve me of all my previous backpain from sitting so much. I would recommend this cushion if the alternatives are far more expensive. I could not do without it anymore as it is definitely better than just my regular office chair. But, I believe their are better options out there even maybe in the form of a more ergonomic chair. Unfortunately, those run in the hundreds to thousands.
Overall, I would recommend this as the more economical alternative to an affordable backrest.
Customer Rating: Summary: Too narrow, too hard, too bad Comment: I got this to help transform a set of uncomfortable truck seats into something I could use on long trips. Unfortunately it doesn't do it for me. I think that together with the seat pad this costs about $120 or more. Upon inspection I'd be surprised if anyone paid half that if they bought it in a store after checking it out.
In my case it was too narrow, the frame edges are felt and padding is pretty minimal. It must work for those with strange back ailments, but for me it didn't. It also lacked a good system for attaching it to a seatback, so you'd have to reposition it every time you use it.
A tiny person might get some use out of it but I can't imagine what's in it that costs so much to produce. It's a frame, foam and a cheap thin cover that looks like it'd wear through with time.
Thankfully Amazon accepts returns on these items. It seems to work for many, but it felt like I was sitting with an ironing board behind me. Literally.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Reliable Product Comment: I have used Obus low back supports for 10 years now after my physical medicine doctor recommended that I use one to relieve the muscle imbalances in my shoulders and back. I have post polio syndrome and it
one item that I can't go without. I've taken it to movie theaters, restaurants, used it in my old recliner, car, and now in my
good ergonomic task chair from Staples.
I do agree that there is a problem with the small lumbar support. I have
learned not to use them. I bought a memory foam lumbar support from Brookstone to put on the Obus when I use it in the car. I use a thin lumbar support by Jay when I use my Obus in my recliner and task chair. These have proven to be the best solutions for me.
When I use the Obus seat with the back, I found that by putting it together just perfectly and then taping them together with clear packing
tape.
When I don't use the Obus in my recliner, I get sacrum and hip pain.
Hope all the tricks that I have learned in using the Obus products will
help someone else.
Amazon has the lowest prices for the Obus products and the delivery
has been very prompt. I had been paying $89 - $99 for the back at a
local health supply store.
The prices at Amazon are so good that I have a set now for each the car
and the task chair.
I don't recommend laying on them or getting them wet. I ruined my
red Obus backs by laying them when in the recliner - I had arm injuries
late last year which required me to sleep in the recliner. A wheelchair
specialist once told me that if you get w/c pads wet, they will be ruined.
Again, hope this helps.
Customer Rating: Summary: Comfy seat Comment: While I enjoyed this backrest, Obus has a newer version which is even better, but more expensive. The backstrap uses a button snap and could be more substantial. It really doesn't hold the backrest secure in the chair.
Customer Rating: Summary: bought six of these through the years Comment: the only product i've found thats better is the air filled obus forme that uses a pump.
they work:
i've used them for over ten years. I've traveled over a million miles carrying one.
i've not had trouble with the product staying in place even though it uses only one strap and they do make a light noises sometimes but they never bother me.
i colleague told me about them. i've told hundreds of people. my neighbor tried multiple products and borrowed mine to use in his car. he wouldn't give it back.
what i don't like about this model:
this model uses velcro to attach a foam pillow to the shell. that allows you to adjust the lumbar exactly where you need it even if the pad slips down between the back and seat of a chair. But the pillow gets smashed over time and is no longer useful, sometimes the pillow falls off, and over time the velcro on the pillow rubs the material on the shell until it will no longer adhere (just rotate the cover so the back is in front and there will be a fresh side to wear out). I lasts about two years.
I now purchase the version with a built in pump. It lasted me five years of heavy travel until i finally destroyed it. negatives of this model are that it costs a little more and doesn't have adjustment on position of the lumbar. If you need lumbar adjustment, get this one.
