Customer Rating: Summary: Truly a better colander idea Comment: Every once in a while, something will come along that represents such a brilliant re-implementation of a basic tool that it makes you wonder why on earth it wasn't done that way in the first place--or at least why it took so long to change. This colander does that for me.
This is the first durable colander I've seen that has incorporated the rapid drain ability of a sieve (the other way around, a self-standing, largish-capacity sieve, is an old idea). While I agree that this is the best small-capacity colander ever, there is room for improvement.
PROS:
-- Self standing
-- Sufficiently large to handle one pound of dry pasta, cooked
-- Sturdy but light: heavy-gauge stainless steel construction throughout, including handles
-- Fast draining
-- Easy to clean and dishwasher-safe
CONS
-- For both safety and comfort, I want bigger loop handles
-- It may be "simply elegant," but it also seems expensive for a basic utensil of this capacity
Customer Rating: Summary: Stainless Steel Colander Comment: Cooks Illustrated recommended this colander and they were right. What I especially like about it is that it
is sturdy and there are no big holes for pasta or anything else to fall out or get stuck. Makes removing the
pasta easy as it doesn't stick. It's a perfect size as well - not too big or too small.
Customer Rating: Summary: Drains the water not the spaghetti Comment: After suffering with a cheap plastic colander for years that let spaghetti escape along with the water, I tossed it and bought this. WOW what a difference, no pasta escapes and it drains out the water instantly. I read the recommendation for this colander in Cook's Illustrated and boy were they right!
Customer Rating: Summary: THE BEST!!! Comment: Short and sweet...this has got to be the best colander on Earth! Drains almost instantly, extremely well-made, and beautiful. Buy it, period!
Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Colander I have Comment: This is one beautiful colander. It's nice and sturdy and easy to clean but, I would strongly recommend drying it completely after washing to keep it looking good. I really like those handles too." I'm seriously thinking about ordering another one. This is the best colander I have. It sure beats those plastic ones and the food does not get caught in the holes like it does on some other ones. Cook's Illustrated was right on about this one and even though it is rather expensive, it's worth the money in quality and looks. I hope they decide to make a larger one.
