Targus's Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video is the first USB based docking station with true video output capabilities. This "One Touch" interface allows users to quickly and easily connect to an external monitor, keyboard, Ethernet, mouse, printer, speakers or other devices in a matter of seconds. This product is also the first docking station to allow users to connect through a single USB connection. The Universal Docking Station provides greater flexibility to commercial users and consumers because it is not notebook platform dependent. It provides a low cost alternative to traditional OEM docking stations and port replicators. Its unique shape provides a more comfortable typing position and allows for better cooling of the notebook. Another factor unique to Targus's Docking Station is the "Always On" option. A great use for the "Always On" feature is to continuously charge devices such as mice, phones or PDAs. Targus's four USB ports are also adapter friendly, meaning they are spaced twice as far apart to allow any size adapters to be plugged into the port. System Requirements - Windows 2000 with SP4 or XP with SP1 or greaterIncluded AC Adapter required (will not function as a BUS powered device)

Customer Rating: Summary: Works Well...for what I'm doing, anyway! Comment: I use this to hook up my notebook (ACER 44620Z running Vista ) to ethernet, speakers, keyboard/mouse/USB memory stick/all-in-one print/scan/fax device/MP3 player (all USB) etc. For all of these things, it works very, very well.
I did try hooking it up to a secondary monitor, and that did not work very well...it might just be a matter of overloading the USB line at that point.
My only complaint (and it's an impossibility, really) would be that it would be nice to be able to charge my notebook via the USB port so that I only had a single cable to hook up. Not gonna happen, of course, but it would be nice. Going from 7 cables to 2 isn't bad...it's just that going to 1 would be even better.
Oh, and I *really* like the lean angle for typing and cooling! That's the icing on the multifunctional cake.
Customer Rating: Summary: Ran Fine Until Recently Comment: I bought one of these 2 years ago, running a Dell 700m laptop, SVA brand monitor, wireless mouse & keyboard and audio speakers off it. I never had any problems with it. It was a snap to install and configure by plug & play. No keybd or mouse problems, nothin! About a month ago, I started having problems with starting up Windows (XP Pro). It would not boot the system, would go to blank screen about a minute after the Windows XP logo screen, then just power down and stop. It started to take several hard stops and starts before XP would start. After running all the diagnostics on Windows and my Dell, I isolated it to the ACP50 since nothing else appeared to have any problems. Uninstalled it, reinstalled from the beginning and now cannot install the hardware, with an error message that says it the hub) is malfunctioning. I have contacted Targus but have not heard back (and don't expect to). Anyone else have a similar problem, write it here please.
Customer Rating: Summary: video does not work due to power surge Comment: i have purchased 2 of these now and have had problems with the video and power problems. both times computer does not recognize device.
Customer Rating: Summary: It didn't work. Comment: This product did not work well at all. It slowed my computer down to a snail's pace. It first of all came partially opened already as if it had been returned previously. I was very unhappy with this product and returned it immediately to the vendor. I did get a full refund though less shipping charges.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not recommended Comment: While the product does work as advertised, the mouse tracking is slow with the bundled ver 7.01 of the drivers. I uninstalled and downloaded/installed the latest 7.12 from Targus. The mouse worked better, but still shaky. The video MUST be set to USB-Primary otherwise it can't share the video with the laptop (I'm using a brand new Dell Vostro 1500, 2Gb RAM, WinXPSP2). Worse, the video seems to be an extended desktop, so on the external monitor, if you move the mouse too far right, it begins to appear on the laptop's screen and gets annoying when trying to bring it back over.
In all, I would not recommend this product as it appears that the single USB connection cannot carry all the data of video, sound, mouse, kybd, etc sufficiently. I hope that Targus redesigns the product with a faster 'backbone' in future models.
