Summary: It works, but it's not great
Comment: My old enamel garlic press finally bit the dust. I spent months searching for a replacement but never found one even remotely similar. It was lightweight and easily minced the garlic through fairly large holes. I loved it!
I really wanted to love this one too, but I don't. It's quite heavy and you have to have a vice-like grip to squeeze the cloves. (I can barely squeeze it all the way, and I'm pretty strong.) It mostly just mashes the cloves and leaves you a wad of pulp. I do like the self-cleaning feature, but I'd rather have a press like my old one. I'll keep hunting.

Summary: As promised in Cooks' Illustrated
Comment: This garlic press is the absolute best of the 3 or 4 garlic presses I have owned over the last decade or so. I purchased this particular one based on a review in Cooks' Illustrated magazine. This press is heavy but durable and crushes cloves easily. The cleaning mechanism is attached to the press which is good (you'll never misplace it). My only concern is that it may become detached from the press over time as it can stick a bit when cleaning skins from the press. Overall I would recommend this if you were purchasing a press. I plan to order one as a gift for my mom.

Comment: I have bought a few very cheap garlic presses and have been very disappointed.
This press worked great for me. I have strong hands and I found I was able to fit up to 3 cloves in it but find it works better with one or two max. It cleans up well and I haven't had any problems with the rubber cleaning part coming loose.
I do hand wash the unit. Perhaps that is the issue some had with it.

Summary: Must Have for the Kitchen
Comment: My household loves garlic and cooking, particularly pasta and appetizers. This press really delivers. The quantity of garlic is produces per clove is amazing, and clean up thoroughly in less than 10 secs under running water. Alternatively, the dishwasher works perfectly.
Fresh garlic is almost as convenient as adding salt!

Comment: This is a sturdy and efficient garlic press. It produces finely minced garlic - no mush. This is so much better than the bargain priced press I was using. I bought a couple more for christmas grabs.
