I took a test tonight because my period is 6 days late and the result showed negative but there was no control line. The instructions said that if no control line shows up the test is invalid. Has anyone had this happen and been pregnant? And what might have caused the control line to not show up? TIA!
Yes I have had this happen and be pregnant. It just means the test is defective. Sometimes it happens if the stick gets too wet (like if you pee on it for too long). It has happened to me twice, once with a brand-name stick and once with the dollar store brand.
The control line is the only way you can know the test could turn positive if it's supposed to. A "result" with no control line means absolutely nothing. There's lots of ways the test could have either malfunctioned or been performed incorrectly. Get a new test, read the directions carefully, and good luck.
