I also agree with Manicah. You will get more BM if you pump after you feed from the breast. I hope that will increase your supply or at least to get some BM for the next days feeding. I would give the formula at night because they say BM fed babies get hungry quicker. With formula at night your LO might sleep a little longer.
My LO is up (that is if he goes to sleep) every 3 hours to eat at night. Right now "my girls" are ready to be pumped.
I hope this helps.

BABY CARRIAGE - Anthony Nunzio arrieved October 23, 2009
Hello all! Looks like everyone is busy (and tired).
Update on us...
Fiona is 4 weeks today!
She is formula fed and eating 3-4 oz every 3 hours.
She is sleeping in 3-4 hour stretches, though one night she did a 7 hour stretch (of course I kept waking to see why she wasn't awake).
I have no idea what she weighs, but I tried to weigh her on our home scale and it said she weighed 10lbs - I assuming she is at least over 9lbs because she is chubbin' up fast!(she was 7lb 13oz at her 10 day appt.)
She farts like a man. Loud and smelly! You would think I feed her brussel sprouts and cauliflower all day with how smelly they are! It doesn't seem to bother her though.
She seems to be very mellow, although I don't remember when the fussiness started with DS so it could be she just hasn't gotten there yet. I remember the witching hour with him was just awful.
DS doesn't seem to affected by her presence. He wants to help feed her, kisses her head, talks to her in the car. I think so far she hasn't interfered with his daily life so he could care less We'll see how he is when she is mobile and getting into his stuff
My incision is healing, although I thought for a minute it was infected - saw the OB and found it was just healing a little differently on one side. I am still a little sore and my abs are really tender.
I started going back to the gym last week. No, I didn't get the okay from my OB, but I was going nuts and had ot get some exercise! I have just been doing the treadmill and some upper body. I can't wait to start pilates again!
I am 15 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight but it seems to all be in my butt and thighs - which is kind of cool because I usually don't have much of a butt
KLU - I heard breast milk is a cure all for so many things and works great on baby acne (someone even suggested it for pink eye!).

I mix formula and BM all the time...? They did it in the NICU, too. I think it is okay to mix them. If I have enough, I do just BM but often mix. I try to do the BM during the day and formula at night.
Tracie B, I would kill for 8oz in the morning. I think your supply is okay and will increase with time. I only get maybe 4.5 oz in the morning and 2 oz each time after that, and that is with being on domperidone to increase my supply! I don't know why I don't just give up...

TracieB - I definely agree to feed from the breast first, then offer a bottle of EBM or formula if she still is hungry. I would then pump for 5-8 minutes to stimulate your supply. Also try Fenugreek, that has helped me.
ND - It's mommy's guilt that won't let you stop! Your doing a great job and even a little bit of breastmilk is beneficial
Dollface - glad Fiona is doing well (love the name, btw)! Oh, and your DS's reaction sounds just like mine.
mixing BM and formula - yeah, we do it in the hospital where I work. I was trying to figure out why you couldn't or shouldn't.
AFM - we're doing well. Sarah seems to be stretching out her feeds, which is nice. Although she went 6 hours Wednesday night but was then fussy from 2:30 - 4am, so you can't win! During the day she is a dream, not fussy at all. We are BFing here and it's going well. I do pump after feeding her in the morning so DH does a bottle of EBM in the middle of the night so I can sleep. We also started giving her a few ounces of formula right before bed. It does seem to hold her longer, though I've been told that's a myth. I just pump at that time so I'm trying to stash a little BM but it's not much. I can't believe 6 weeks have passed and my maternity leave is already 1/2 over.

Hi ladies! I've had some computer issues....hopefully they're fixed!
dropping You may not drop until right before you go into labor, so it's hard to say. I did drop and it seemed to me that I was able to tell one morning just by looking at myself straight on in the mirror w/no shirt on. It was really noticeable.
mixing formula & BM I did do this when I was weaning my DS. Basically, it's OK to reheat BM & re-offer it once, I think. Once you mix formula with it though, I don't think that it can be reoffered if they don't finish the bottle. I too found kellymom helpful.
afm We're doing pretty well. Austin only sleeps for about 2hours at a time at night, I feed & change him & he usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly. He seems content after feeding on just one side, so I've trying to get him to wake up more to have the other side also. I've been producing more than I did with DS1 and leak all.the.time. It's such a drag! Other than that though, nursing is going well. I pumped for the first time yesterday so DH can try a bottle. I'm not really wanting to pump because I really don't want to increase my supply! DS1, Wyatt, is adjusting to the baby. Yesterday I tried taking Wyatt outside and figured the easiest thing was to put the baby in the stroller. Wyatt had a fit that he couldn't go in the stroller, so we ended up coming inside pretty quickly. I'll be looking for a double stroller on craigslist!
I think that sums it up...I try to get at least 1 nap in during the day or I am fried, Have to work on getting the little guy's nights & days straightened around. He seems to sleep longer stretches during the day.
One other thing...I developed a rash- red, itchy bumps since having Austin. Anyone heard of anything like that? My midwife told me to call my pcp, I just haven't yet...I'm hoping it will resolve on it's own soon!

mcgwigan - is it all over? I delivered last Wednesday and developed this rash on Sunday. It started out on the back of my hands and on my arms, now it is ALL OVER. Tuesday my OB checked to make sure I hadn't gotten any new meds that I could be allergic to, when they decided I hadn't they told me to try Benadryl first. So I took 50mg every 4 hours for more then 36 hours - it did NOTHING. So I called again this morning and I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow. Its weird its almost like the itching spikes when my milk lets down, we don't think its a contact thing since we haven't changed detergent or anything like that. I'll let you know what they say after tomorrow. They did say it could be PUPPP http://dermatology.about.com/cs/pregnancy/a/puppp.htm but they don't think it is since the rash appeared after delivery.

Had Lily's 2 week appointment today. They say she weighs 8lbs 5 oz. (She was 7lbs 1 oz when we left the hosptial) I'm not sure I'm believing them yet. I'll have to try and measure her on the home scale.
But everything is going good over here. She still eats about every 3 hours. Usually she eat from one side, fall asleep, fill her diaper, then wake up and eat the other side. So it's a bit of a drawn out process, it takes about an hour. But whatever works right?
I haven't gotten out the pump yet. That's on the radar for next week.
Megan has had the same reaction as others have posted. Doesn't really mind the baby much. She still calls her "her baby" and likes to get the diapers out of the package. I'll walk in and they'll be a big stack just sitting on the floor She wants to hold her often and was very protective of her when I brought Lily with me to pick Megan up from daycare. Megan has been acting out a bit, not sure if it's because of the baby or if just normal 3 year old stuff.
Wish the weather would be better. It's been rainy and gloomy and cold all week. Which means I'm stuck in the house because I don't want to hassel with a newborn in that kind of weather. What I wouldn't give for a little bit of sunshine!
Taz I think mine is resolving now- but yes, all over. Mostly between my breasts & under them, backs of my hands, top of my feet, ankles, my back-all over and also my waist & hip joints. I've been wanting to avoid meds so didn't even try benedryl. It's just so weird- I went through IF for ds1 and didn't have anything like this - this baby was conceived naturally - I think there's a higher incidence of pupps w/if treatments.

mcgwigan - my first was fertility as well and this one was also natural - they've diagnosed me with PUPPP and have given me a cream to put on it twice a day, if it doesn't clear or start to go away by Monday they want to go to an oral steroid. I guess PUPPP is actually pretty rare so I got the full work up, seen by 4 doctors, they took pictures, etc. because I'm at a teaching hospital. It was tons of fun.
