Ugh-- that sucks! Are you just skipping Killarney and staying the whole time in Tralee, then?

kmack- Love those photos of the Cliffs! When we were there everyone was climbing over the walls, as well. I wasn't interested in doing that, but it seemed to be somewhat the norm. We went towards the south end of the Cliffs, along that little dirt trail. There's a sign saying you shouldn't go, but it's perfectly safe and not at all close the edge. Everyone was walking out there, too.

My DH goofing with the sign at the head of the trail:

You can see people out the ledges in this photo:

Funny thing is that in traveling around the country we ran into so many tourists who'd been to the Cliffs prior to those walls going up and they were all lamenting how ugly and unnecessary they were. I guess it's easy enough to climb right over them, so what are those walls really accomplishing?

Oh, I also wanted to recommend this blog I've been reading.

Expats in Ireland

It's written by two American who moved to Co. Clare a couple years ago. They have a gorgeous little cottage and do all this incredible gardening, but they also travel around Ireland and post photos and videos. It's been fun to see photos of the non-touristy spots they visit and read about life in Ireland. The post about the two years and thousands of Euros they've spent trying to get driver's licenses is pretty priceless. Anyway, just thought others might enjoy.

We're staying in Tralee the whole time but will make a day trip over to Killarney to visit the lakes and the Gap of Dunloe.

Off to check out the Expats in Ireland blog - that's exactly the type of reading I've been looking to add to my Google Reader!

Going out on the cliffs was one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done. I would do it again in a heartbeat, and I'm not a big risk taker.
