See, and this is where I get thoroughly ticked off. Where did I (or anyone else) ever say that Islam was all about terrorism? I think if you go back through the thread, you will even see that I pointed out that it is NOT. But please, if there is a direct quote where I said we should be biased against all Muslims because of the actions of a few, let me know.
IF he was acting as a Muslim terrorist, what do we do? Nothing different legally, I suppose. But, we don't need to cower until the veil of political correctness if it turns out to be true.
Okay. First, I wasn't directing that specifically at you. I was speaking more to a tone I picked up in the thread. My confusion was that some seemed hooked on the whole muslim thing and I just don't get what that has to do with it. Extremism? SURE! But simple Islam? To me, that's the same as someone who is not christian looking at me as though I'm going to attack them simply because I am christian. It's the extremism we have to focus on.
Second, the way we're using "political correctness" bothers me. It's not that people are not saying what they think because they are trying to be politically correct. IT's that we believe that people shouldn't be branded with an extreme brush just because one person who claims to have their same faith does something horrible. I hear some people say "political correctness" and in my mind, I think, "No, we are just trying to be fair and it's innocent until proven guilty". I don't think jumping to any conclusions based on whether someone who committed a heinous act was muslim or not is being "poilitically correct". I think it's being smart to avoid a panic.
In this case, a retaliation against innocent people in the muslim community could occur. At that point, I'm not thinking about political correctness. I am thinking about how we can prevent one tragedy from spiraling into another. And those people are AMERICANS too. So, I cannot justify setting off a verbal grenade that might incite some Americans to harm other Americans simply because they engage in political profiling.
Quote:
Phoenics, I am pretty sure you have "profiled" me as a certain way, based mostly on my political views.
Nah - I think you're Christian like me, but we differ on some "implementation" issues, namely our politics. You'd laugh though, because I just started dating a guy who LOVES Fox News and has O'Reilly and Hannity books on his shelf. He's very smart too. I even nicknamed him like Carrie named Big on Sex and the City, lol - mostly around him challenging me all the time. Our religious views are the same, but we definitely differ on some political issues. It's kinda funny - when I don't want to strangle him, lol.

Well, I'm somewhat (how's that for honesty) sorry if my comments "rubbed you the wrong way" - though I'm not sure which one; the Greek comment, or the last name.
The latter, at least, wasn't smug but in response to what many have tried to say. That if it becomes acceptable to allude to someone's last name as a clue to guilt or suspicion - it is a small leap, a hop really, to then use that same sensibility to assign guilt/suspicion based on how someone LOOKS. That unchecked, there could be many instances like this. And all anyone is asking is that people know their facts BEFORE persecuting. I mean, prosecuting. (sorry, sarcasm and the like are just part of my make-up).
LOL. I agree with this, obviously.
