"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new." ~Rajneesh

Places to meet other moms:
(Compiled by kimthebride)
- Libraries with story/puppet hours or just in the kids section
- Book stores with story/puppet hour (almost every Barnes & Nobles does these)
- Some of the B&N bookstores near us have a Thoams & Friends train table set up in the kids' section, lots of moms bring their kids there to have a coffee and let their kid play...you can always seek something like that out and hit people up
- Yoga studios that offer pre/post-partum classes often do some classes with new moms & their babies, or something called "Itsy Bitsy Yoga" . Go to http://www.itsybitsyyoga.com/ to find classes near you.
- Local gyms with "Stroller" type of classes for moms getting back into shape
- Local Strollercize chapters: http://www.strollercize.com/web.php?view=homepage
- http://www.momsclub.com/
- Go to www.Yahoo.com and search under "Groups" for a parenting groups near you
- Just introduce yourself to other moms at different parks & playgrounds
- Starbucks. I can't tell you how many times I have seen/met other moms looking for a quiet place to snack and BF and ended up at a Starbucks, lol.
- County/Town Welcome Wagon or community website...there may be a local contact person who can tell you where the playgroups are in your area for kids yours' age.
- Infant CPR classes and other childcare classes at hospitals or elsewhere
- Pediatricians often have bullitain boards with local class or mom support groups on it
- Gymboree, Little Gym, My Gym classes
- The play areas in malls
- Kid-friendly restaurants like Chuck E Cheese
You may feel silly at first, since it is so like dating! But just sit down and make some calls to find out where the moms are and GO THERE. Then talk to other moms, make some connections.
And here's my little tip of the day: Get some "Mommy Calling Cards" so when you meet other moms you can easily give them something with your contact info on it so they can easily reach you. I ordered some simple business cards (for free) from www.vistaprint.com with my name, cell#, email address and "Mom to DS & DD" on them. If I meet a new mom I give it to them - easy way to remember me and not easily lost in a diaper bag!
QOTD #2: Have any of you read the Feminine Mistake by Leslie Bennetts? I'd love to know your thoughts.
QOTD #3: I know we are all busy with our little ones but we all know there are times in the day/evening that they sleep. What do you do when they nap or go to bed?
QOTD #4: When was the last time you spent a good amount of alone time with DH?? (more than just nightly after kids are in bed?)
QOTD #5: What's the hardest thing for you about being SAH?
Since DD won't be five months forever, I should give her birthday so that can be put on the members list instead: 4/13/05.
Can I toss out the first QOTD? When someone asks - I'm thinking in an adult social situation here, if we all remember those - what you "do", as in what is your occupation, what's your answer?
"If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much." ~ Jackie O. Livejournal
