With all the privacy issues going on at Picasa, I'm looking for a new place to store my photos online and share them with friends.
I already have a Flickr account, but I use it only for showing off "good" photos I've taken in my attempt to become a better photographer. I've never used it to store personal photos (kiddo, home, etc.). I understand that you can adjust the privacy level of each photo you upload there, so I could just make photos of my kid private. If I want to share those photos with someone, though, can I do that even if they're not a Flickr member? Will they have to create an account? And if I share with someone, they'll be able to see everything listed public in my account, not just one particular album, right?
Can you recommend any other photo sites out there that will allow you to upload photos and share a particular album with just a specific group of people? I really want some control over who sees what, and I don't necessarily want anyone with access to one album to be able to see everything I upload.
I use Flickr for everything and think it has good privacy control. I set all my pics to family only and limit my family to well, my family and closest friends. When I want to share with others, I create a group and then you get a sharing code for that group only. I can still link to private pics here but on Facebook, I can only post the code. I can't say if others can copy or link the pictures. They do not need a Flickr account to use the link. And you can set the sharing link to expire or simply unshared them.
I've never had problems with Flickr so I've never tried anything else. However, I don't like their photo book site so I double upload pics to shutterfly and make my books there.
Thanks, Boilermaker! That is great info. I'm going to look around on Flickr a little more carefully and figure out how to use the various privacy settings. I'm glad to hear it's customizable!
