For my 40th, DH and I went to Las Vegas for a long weekend, just us. We saw some shows and ate wonderful food and relaxed! It was our first time OOT without DD and she did great with her grandmas.
For DH's 40th my SIL had attempted to have our yard flocked with flamingos. I say attempted because we are on a cul de sac where house numbers are a little skewed and they ended up flocking our neighbor's yard, which made it even funnier. His birthday is in February and fell on Super Bowl Weekend. We had a big Super Bowl party at our house that we both spent in a daze because I had found out that morning that I was pregnant. I don't remember much other than trying to ditch drinks that were given to me without anyone noticing.
My 40th was a year ago and it was also a blur. My mom had just been diagnosed with cancer and at the time it looked like she had only weeks to live (she is fine) so once again I spent a milestone birthday in a fog. We ended up going to Busch Gardens I think.
So I hope I will finally be able to do something big for my 45th.
DH's is this year, I'm planning a big surprise party for him. He never likes parties but has admitted he'd like to do something for his 40th. My plan is to let him think we're just getting together with a few friends but surprise him with a big party!
Mine's still a few years off, but I'm already hoping for a family vacation in Hawaii (I've never been). My birthday is always near spring break, so I think that will work out without the kids missing school.
DH and I aren't 40 yet, but here are some ideas of my friends that have turned:
- Climb Mt. Rainier
- Long girls weekend in Cabo or Maui
- Week in France w/o kids to catch some of the Tour de France
- Napa trip
- Large catered house party with band
I love that some of your want to go to the Gorge! I grew up close to the Gorge and most of the shows I've been to have been there. That is quite the travel for some of you for a concert! (Although totally worth it of course because the Gorge is awesome!) You could stay at the Cave B winery nearby too.
DH turns 40 the same day our DS2 turns 4 and we're already joking that it'll be spent at Disney.
For DH's 40th last year we had a big catered party with friends that included kids at a property in wine country. We had a Neil Diamond impersonator perform and had crafts, a jumpy and nannies for the kids so the parents could have fun. DH loves oysters so we also had a raw oyster bar.
For my 40th, I'm doing a long weekend in Cabo with girlfriends followed by a week in Paris with just DH.

Mine is next year and I'd love a party! I have a summer birthday, so I'd love to have a BBQ, lots of drinks, and a bonfire with all my friends and family. I think I may have to plan it myself as DH can never remember when my birthday is.
I had a huge party, I wore a long white embellished dress, DH wore a nice tux, my family and our friends were all there! Oh wait, that was our wedding! Yeah I got married for my 40th birthday, it was fantastic! For DH's we went to dinner with a bunch of his friends in a nice restaurant. He refused to have a 50th. For my 50th this year we went to Disney and did the food and wine fest at Epcot, it was also our 10th anniversary, that's how I talked him into it (he hates disney!)
Kristy a child free evening with DH at Epcot would have been awesome. Maybe I can do a make up 40th birthday weekend during the Food and Wine Festival sometime. I will definitely have to plan that myself though, DH wouldn't even know where to start.
