I just finished Shanghai Girls last night. It was good, although there were times I wanted to reach in and shake some sense into one character or another! But the story itself was very engaging. I was pretty pissed about the open ending until I discovered this is actually a 2-book series, with Dreams of Joy as the continuation of the story. Not sure yet if I'm going to read it, though.
Up next is either Elizabeth Street or The Invisible Bridge.
I felt the same way about Shanghai Girls, weezalana! It seemed like the story was just moving along, then all of the sudden, the book was ending and it was obvious that the story wasn't! It made me so mad!
I'm currently re-reading Night Over Water by Ken Follett. It's been 10+ years since I read it, and I am really enjoying it. Super fast moving, as I started it yesterday and am already 2/3 of the way through it.
The End of Boys by Peter Hoffmeister. I just started it today, and I'm a quarter of the way through and want to ignore my work and keep reading. I keep having to remind myself that it is a memoir and not fiction. It's really gripping.
I posted in the 2011 thread since I finished right before the new year, but in case you missed it - Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. Highly recommended! YA Historical fiction about WWII - but a little known piece of history about Lithuania.
I finished Ready Player One based on the recommendations here, and I have to say I loved it! It wasn't the best book I read (I finished it over the holiday) in 2011 but it was definitely in my top 5. I'm currently reading State of Wonder and it's picking up nicely.
Weezalana, I'd recommend Dreams of Joy. I thought it was a good follow up to Shanghai Girls. I really enjoyed it, actually.

At the library last week I saw Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet on an NPR display (a display of books discussed on NPR recently). Since I remembered seeing it here, I picked it up. I just started reading it today. So far, it is better than I expected, but I had pretty low expectations. I really must stop discounting books just because the synopsis doesn't seem like something I'd like. Thank you ladies for all of your recommendations that take me out of my comfort zone. I've read some great books that I wouldn't have otherwise read.
I just finished "11/22/63" by Stephen King and wow, it was great! Best SK I have read in years and years! I can't recommend it highly enough.
Now I am reading "The Uncoupling" by Meg Wolitzer - just started it this morning, but I like it so far. Also plan on reading the "Hunger Games" trilogy on my BIL's recommendation. Not my usual fare, but he recommended them so highly I have to give it a shot - he is my reading-twin soul mate in terms of likes/dislikes, so I gotta trust him on this!
I have tons more in the queue (either in the actual Nook queue, or on my wishlist) for 2012! It's going to be a busy reading year!

I read The Marriage Plot over the holidays and it dragged for me at times (although I was distracted a lot by nieces and nephews, so that didn't help) By the end, tho, I was totally sold and my overall impression of it is very positive. It was a beautiful book.
Now I'm reading The Night Circus and it's really fun!
