We never did see puss in boots, DD woke up that day feeling cruddy. Now I think we are going to skip it and go see Muppets instead, it's getting great reviews. I am also going to see Breaking Dawn on Black Friday with a friend (after we hit up Fred Meyer for 1/2 price socks). DD will be taking DH to the childrens museum that day (I checked and it's open).
Good judgement comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgement. -From a bumper sticker I saw once
DH and I took the kids to see The Muppets today. DS (5 yrs) enjoyed it but it didn't keep DD's attention (3 yrs). The last movie we took her to was to see Smurf's and she seemed to follow/enjoy that one more.
I thought The Muppets was cute, but it wasn't as great as I had heard and hoped it would be. That being said, I am still happy we saw it. We saw the preview for Arthur Christmas during the previews and that one looks super cute....... can't wait to take the kids to see that one

Saw Arthur Christmas at the drive in tonight. It was pretty good, DD liked it. The Smurfsmovie (double feature) is on right now and I'm on the iPad instead of watching it. Little blue people aren't my bag. It is funny seeing Neil patrick Harris though.
Me & my Dad went to see The Muppets yesterday & loved it. But I think you have to be an old school Muppet fan to really enjoy it & get ALL the references. We watched The Muppet Show together religiously when I was little.
Saw the Muppets last night. I agree, you'll get more out of it if you are a Muppet fan. Loved the 70s and 80s references, too! The cameos were good fun, too. I'm so glad they stuck with classic muppet humor and didn't try to 'modernize' it.
Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint on it you can. - Danny Kaye
We saw The Descendants and liked it but didn't love it. I know George Clooney's getting a ton of Oscar buzz for his performance, but I thought the girl who played his oldest daughter actually gave the best and most memorable performance. Good movie (although I didn't expect it to be so sad-- bring tissue!) and worth seeing.
We also saw The Artist, which is only just now expanding to more theaters. You'll probably have to look for it at an art house theatre, at least for now. I loved it. Loved it. Highly, highly recommend. I think this film has a great shot at Best Picture. It's black and white and almost entirely silent, and it's not starring anyone you know. Now, totally forget I just said those things and go see it anyway. It's sweet, earnest, funny, thoughtful and totally charming. I don't think it will play as well on DVD, either, given the lack of dialogue and likelihood for distraction, so this one should be seen in the theater.
Tomorrow, I think we're seeing Hugo. Anyone seen this yet?
We saw Hugo last weekend and LOVED it. Both my DH and I were big fans. I think Hugo and The Artist would be our two favorite movies this year. Hugo is a movie that is really enhanced by 3D, so I recommend seeing it in 3D if possible. If your kids are old enough, they will really like it, too.
Also saw The Muppets, which was cute but kind of "eh" for me. My 3-year old liked it, although he did get a little squirmy here and there.
This weekend we're seeing Young Adult, starring Charlize Theron and directed by Jason Reitman. Have heard good things!
What movies did you see over the holiday break? Here's what we saw:
Young Adult- We both kind of hated it. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy- I wish I'd liked it more. It felt a little clinical for me, like they were trying so hard to hit all the plot points from the book that they missed the soul of it. Arthur Christmas- Surprisingly cute and charming
Still really want to see:
Mission Impossible 4
War Horse
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
My top 5 favorite movies of 2011 (thus far):
1. Hugo
2. The Artist
3. Midnight in Paris
4. Moneyball
5. The Descendants
