Red's Girl, I mentioned that too. EVERY SINGLE GYMNAST has that extreme ugly ponytail (french braid anyone? Bun? Something interesting?) and I thought that all the way through. Gabby's hair never even entered my mind, it was just one more ugly ponytail. I know that African American girls have a really hard time with their hair and wanting to not stand out (I have a friend whose daughter has nappy hair but it's the most GORGEOUS super-model curly hair naturally, but all she wants to do is have it straightened...which in my opinion looks way worse... so she can "fit in") so it's even more unfortunate that now they have the whole country telling them that even straight their hair isn't OK. What a shame. I hope as my friend's DD gets older (she's 10) that she will see the beauty in her curly hair..and how much easier the upkeep would be.
Good judgement comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgement. -From a bumper sticker I saw once
I think Gabby Douglas is a beautiful young woman. Her smile could light up an entire building. And quite honestly, pretty much anytime the camera caught her (with and without her knowledge), she had a happy and pleasant expression on her face. Her fellow gymnasts all looked like bitchy little pills. There was absolutely nothing at all wrong with her hair and that the so-called "press" felt some overwhelming need to comment on it is just beyond my understanding.
If she got a make-over because SHE wanted it, that's great. But she certainly didn't need it.
I believe the horrible comments about her hair started in blog world and then it was picked up by the mainstream media with mostly positive comments. Sadly, the original accusations were from African American women who claimed her mother had forced her into a white world and her hair was proof of that. That she didn't truly "represent".
Can I confess I'm just a little uncomfortable with the relationship between Taylor Swift (22) and Conor Kennedy (just turned 18 in July, going into his junior or senior year of HS)? Also, she bought a house right next to the Kennedy compound in Hyannis.
Irish - agree completely! If the genders were reversed, there would be quite a bit (more) of negative speculation. Right now, I have only heard positive in blog world. What is she thinking? What are her handlers thinking?

me too!!! It's like she's preying on the poor kid. And, so icky that she bought the house next door.

Granted his mother killed herself this past spring and thus he must have taken time off, but he just turned 18 and is going to only be a .Junior? (I presume he could have been held back before K with a July birthday and then had to repeat his Junior year) - That makes it even more icky - He won't graduate from high school for 2 years. I can see the summer romance, but buying the house is just creepy.
Maybe she still thinks she's 15. I really wish her music would "grow up". I'm so sick of the "boys suck" songs. LAME-O. And yeah, icky about her buying the house next door. Strange.
