How do you guys wash dolls? Most of DD's dolls that weren't too expensive I just throw in the wash and whatever happens, happens. However her fav/ lovey is a Corrolle doll. She'll let it wear pants, but it has to be topless at all times. Because of this and the fact she's sick right now (and the doll has an enormous amount of dirt and banana on it), I want to be able to wash it. How do you usually do this?
One of my DD's favorite dolls is a cheapie I bought from Target to bring to my BF-ing class when I was pregnant. Her baby goes everywhere and gets pretty dirty. She's got plastic arms, legs and head but her body is polyfill. After spot washing wasn't doing the job I threw babydoll in the washing machine on gentle cycle and put her out on the drying rack outside to dry all day (DD said she was getting a "suntan" ) I was worried that she'd get moldy or stink or something but so far so good!
I have surfaced washed DD's "Baby Stella" with shampoo and a toothbrush. But she is still grungy looking. And I found she got dirtier faster (soap residue to attract dirt?), so any suggestions would be welcome!

LOL my DD's is "Baby Layla". Brave enough to put her in the washing machine?

Given that DD's baby is a 'toy' and not a 'lovey' I would. Except I have a craptastic washer that ruins clothes and the doll was more then I usually spend on toys (or my clothes for that matter!)

Darn...maybe find a drycleaner that uses green/organic products? They might have a suggestion or be able to clean the doll for you. Might be a bit $ but for a rare cleaning might be worth it
I just emailed Corrolle. There has to be some way, especially since DD is sick and has been coughing all over her doll. DH just thinks I should put it in and take my chances. I was planning to give her Bitty Baby for Christmas and now I'm rethinking that since she'll just get Bitty dirty, too.
Here is a suggestion - put the doll in a lingerie bag and wash with a few other items. This way, if the unthinkable does happen, the pieces and parts will be all together in one confined space.
