I love this show. Watched the season opener and wanted to cry thinking that Phil doesn't make it through this season. Can't believe they switched the Jakes on the two boats.

I found it hard to watch because of knowing Phil's fate. I found myself basically shaking my head everytime he's on the screen b/c it's just so sad. Then to know that his Jake isn't on his boat... sad! If all parties were healthy and survived I love that move, it's a great experience for both boys. Knowing that it comes at the expense of Jake not being a part of his dad's final run made my heart hurt a bit. Then again, I fully admit I'm overly emotional.
Anyone still watching? Nobody I know IRL watches this show & I have questions!
I was not at all surprised to hear Jake's admission to Phil. How much time elapsed between Jake confessing after getting caught & Phil's stroke? Jake's got to feel bad. And does Josh know about Jake?
We watch weekly! I actually stay up past my bed time to not miss it every week.
I am not sure how much time there was between Jake's confession and Phil's stroke, but I did read an article with Josh that said his Dad and Jake did not tell him about Jake's problem while on the boat. Here is the article.
I really enjoy this show too, however it's been bugging me that they haven't said anything about what happens to Phil on the show up until now. I mean I know it's a TV show and it's better ratings to watch it play out throughout the season, but I guess I expected a voiceover by the narrator guy at the beginning of the season, or a "This season is dedicated to Captain Phil Harris" message on screen each week...or some sort of acknowledgement that we all know he has died since these episodes were filmed. It's just been so weird to me somehow. But I don't know, maybe it's not as common knowledge to all of the show's fans as I think it is. I live in Seattle so these guys are kind of local celebrities. Phil's death was big news around here. *shrug*
Have I mentioned that I got to meet Captain Phil a couple of years ago? I have a picture of him with my husband and our dog.
Anyway, apparently the remaining episodes of the season will all include stuff about what happened to Phil from when he had his stroke until he died. So sad!

I think most people that watch know what has happened. We don't live anywhere near you, but on fb the day he died, there were a lot of acknowledgments of his passing. We've been watching after the catch and they've mentioned him and have a place at the table for him
What happens to him isn't a secret, so I don't really think what they've done is wrong. It's still a TV show and they want to show a whole season. And honestly, I don't think I could handle them making an entire season about him dying, that would be so sad. I teared up just watching them lift him off the boat. I also bet he wouldn't have wanted that. His whole life was fishing, and I bet he thought it was pretty cool that people actually wanted to watch a show about crab fishing. I don't think he would want to completely overshadow the whole season.
Jake looked awful. I wonder what he's addicted to. I know he was stealing pills but he looked way worse than someone who just needed pills. I wish they would have said how long they had been at sea before that happened.
Do we know yet who took over the Cornelia Marie? I know Josh said something about needed to call Cornelia the co-owner of the boat. I know that one guy is gone and Jake and Josh are in no position to run a boat.
Oh yeah, I was surprised that when Jonathan said he was done that Andy started talking about getting someone to replace them both. No way is Scotty ready to run a boat.

I feel like the new intro to the show this year is a pretty nice tribute to Phil without being overly this-season-is-all-about-Phil.
