Default Would you buy a big ticket item from amazon.com?

My husband wants a watch for Christmas. He has said he wants a Tag Heuer and has described what he wants in the watch. I have a couple of coupons from different Jewelry stores which are authorized Tag dealers. So I could save some money, probably a few hundred. However a friend suggested amazon. I just went on and the watch I was thinking of getting I could save $900. The only difference is the warranty would be with amazon where if I buy the watch from a jewelry store you can bring it to any authorized dealer. They are both for 2 years.

Has anyone bought any big ticket items from amazon? Were you happy with your purchase?

I've purchased higher end electronics from amazon as well as expensive tools that my DH wanted and had no problems with either. I don't understand why you couldn't have the watch serviced at any location that services that brand regardless of where it was purchased. Anyway, Amazon is reliable and very worth it especially if you do your research ahead of time and are certain about the product you are buying but I will admit I have never had to return anything through them so I can't speak to that.

I would. We have had nothing but good experiences with Amazon, as long as we buy items actually from Amazon, not from 3rd party sellers. We just bought FIL a big TV from Amazon, actually.

Of course, I don't know the details of the warranty, so that might change things. But I'd probably be willing to do it.

You might want to check out Costco since I saw Tag watches there a week ago.

I would buy from Amazon if it met saving $900.

I was just going to say what Asha said- they have Tags at Costco, and Costco has a wonderful return policy. They are a little more strict now, but I've returned a THREE year old refrigerator that broke (and was kind of my fault ) as well as a nice camera that I dropped and didn't work anymore.

However, I have bought bigger things on Amazon, such as a computer, and I loooove Amazon. I do make sure that when I purchase from Amazon, it says "fulfilled by Amazon" or whatever it says because I trust Amazon, and I know I won't get denied for a return (although I've never had to return a big ticket item).

DH and I both have a couple of Tag watches. If you have the Tag paperwork, you can have it serviced at any Tag dealer. Most places are going to send it directly back to Tag anyway.

ETA: Wow, they do have some good deals. Someone stop me before I buy another one.

We've ordered jewelry from Amazon before. I agree that you want to be sure you are buying from Amazon and not some random 3rd party vendor. Bonus points for free shipping!

I've bought a lot of stuff from Amazon and never had a problem. Not really big ticket items, but I'd have no problem buying from them if it meant saving 900 bucks!
