I live in work in central city Milwaukee and spent five years working in an inner-city group home--there is always almost hope! I'm sure your sister is a good person--I just found your statement inaccurate and presumptive.

I think we can all know someone or some situation on both sides of the fence.

My aunt worked as a kindergarten teacher in Chicago/inner city for years. She would tell us stories of how the girls in her class were having sex with their 1st/2nd grade boyfriends because they didn't want the boys to "quit" them. Or how parents would yell at her and insist their child had a learning disorder/problem of some sort because they could get more welfare.

I know my aunt tried for years to help the kids - and this was in kindergarten. Eventually the parents got the best of her and she was forced into early retirement. She doesn't talk about it too much...

I think, to her, she now believes many of those kids are unreachable because of what she's seen/experienced at that level. Maybe her position will change over time.

ETA: I'm sure my aunt experienced far worse things in class that what I listed - she just never shared them with me and my cousins.

The gang rape case just makes me feel sick to my stomach. It's just horrible. I can't imagine that happening to anyone and I'm so sorry for that girl.

She did come on the news here and make a statement for people to take their anger and use it to make Richmond a safer and better place to live. Poor girl. My heart and prayers go out to her.

She was on the news? I don't know how I missed that. I know that the family's minister read a statement from her, but I didn't realize she had appeared on the news.

Sorry - I meant her minister read her statement on the news. Boy was I unclear. Should have reread what I posted.

    Sorry for that.

Not a problem! I watch the news a lot and wondered how I'd missed it.

I do think it's great that the 911 caller has gone public.
