Your welcome cr8zy!...btw, we took his 'crawling' spiderman to the hospital to show my ILs(another story), anyways, they loved it & the staff too! Oh, and if you happen to buy soon, you can get a 'free' item(a certain type of Marvel Brand Squinkie-a pk. of 12) if you spend a min. of $30 or MORE on any Spiderman toy. So, I went today & got 2 sets for free, since I forgot to grab them yesterday. I'm saving the other one to hand out for a gift.
For anyone else that is planning on adding on to their TAG collection, TRU is having a $alre right now on their software/games/books. You can $ave $5 on the books alone & the same goes for the Explorer games. Oh, and the TAG pen is marked down from $40 to $30! Look for the TRU coupon mailer & it should also have 2 coupons on the front of the coupon - $10 off a purchase of $50 Or more.
yby1 - That's great to hear! what are your son's fav. books? I think well be set for awhile...as he just rcv'd. 4 books/ the space one & the US map.
His favorite is Finding Nemo. He also likes one called "Walter the Farting Dog goes on a Cruise." It was perfect for DS because he really loves the fart sounds.

Hey all. DD's 5th birthday is in two months and two months later is Christmas. In between, she's getting a baby brother so I thought I'd get a head start (like Chimi!)
She has the Mobigo game system and uses it occasionally so I could get a new game. She also has inherited one of our old IPOD touches that she has for games and TV shows in the car. Wondering if any of the other educational game systems would be redundant or a good idea?
She has a tricycle and a scooter so I'm wondering about a bike. We had terrible luck with the tricycle tires so it didn't get much use. Not sure if the bike would be more successful.
She has a couple dolls but I don't think she cares enough to go for anything fancy like an American Girl doll. Maybe the Target knock off?
I imagine I could fill up both occasions at the Disney store but I'd like a little variety so if anyone has good suggestions, I would love to hear them.

DD is 5 and 4 months. We have the leapster explorer and an ipod - I think IPOD apps are way better and cheaper than the leapster games. DD much prefers playing on the IPOD.
Things that she loves and uses the most: binoculars/magnifying glass, dress up costumes (ninja, pirate etc... I bought them cheap after Halloween), kid size real cooking tools, just getting into lego, board games. DD also loves doing art projects now - a box of craft supplies would be good. This sounds weird but we bought a hand held Fiskars drill and she loves drilling holes in stuff like popsicle sticks or pieces of wood - she uses them in her art projects. She loves her bike with training wheels. I know some of her friends can ride without training wheels, but most of her friends are still using them. She has a few dolls/stroller/high chair but rarely plays with them.
We just started reading chapter books to her a few months ago and she loves the Magic Tree House books - might be a nice gift to get the first four books (each set of 4 books is a 'mission').
I would absolutely get her a bike with training wheels! My DS1 got his first bike with training wheels for his 4th birthday and complains about daycare only having baby bikes -tricycles & big wheels and won't ride them there.
Dress -up items are also a good idea. I'm thinking that the LeapPad stuff might be a bit on the young side for her so if you were looking for specifically gaming stuff I'd learn towards a DS or something like that...although in my opinion it's a good idea to hold off on that sort of stuff for as long as you can.
Things my 5.5 year old has played with regularly this year:
Her bike
Her razor scooter
Her Target knock off American Girl doll (all her friends got "real" AG dolls and not one of them has realized DD's is a knock-off. I'm sure it'd be obvious to an older group but not 5 year olds)
Barbies and her Barbie house - but only when she has friends over, she doesn't like to play Barbies alone
Her real camera. I got a new one last year and gave her my previous point and shoot. She uses it to be a photographer, to make movies, to go on picture scavenger hunts, etc.
When I play with her, our activities are mostly elaborate make believe scenarios centered around playing school (she like to be the teacher), playing restaurant (she creates menus, plays waitress, cook, takes money, gives change, etc), and playing house (where I convince her to clean for me. I love this one ).
DH & I also do a quiet time activity with her for 20 min after DD1 is in bed. Large (>100 piece) puzzles, games (her favorites are yahtzee and UNO and a Fancy Nancy game).
My experience has been that 5 is the turning point where toys just aren't that interesting anymore. She'd much rather play in the real world.

Completely agree with this. Since DS1 turned 5, he's still interested in his cars but other than that toys just don't hold his interest anymore. He'll stay play legos occassionaly (although I know most boys his age are into these), but other than that he wants to play pretend stuff with his sister.
Anyone have an opinions about the original LeapPad vs. the LeapPad2? I wouldn't mind saving the 20 or so dollars and getting the older version for DS1's 4th birthday, but I don't understand much about gigabytes and whatnot, lol. The plan is to get one or the other, plus the case, skin and headphones (okay, those are for me!). His cousin is getting him a game, and I'm hoping he'll ask Santa for another game to round things out. TIA!
