My 5 year old DS wished to go to Disney on his Make-A-Wish trip earlier this year and with it we got to go to Universal too. We almost skipped Universal so we could spend more time at Disney, but after 1 day at Islands of Adventure, we rearranged our trip to go back again. Universal was so much better for him than Disney! Don't get me wrong, he loved Disney, but he loved Universal even more. He could go on quite a few rides and they were more exciting than the Disney rides. At Disney he is in between the cut off for the big rides and too old for the rides like Dumbo. Plus they have the Marvel Superheros there, which were a big hit! Definitely check it out if you haven't been there yet!

thx ladies for the suggestions! I looked at both parks & the Islands of Adventure, seems to be right up DS alley - esp; with the Spiderman ride!!! DS is HUGE into spidey right now. Right now, ds is currently at 42inch., and because of his height, he's able to ride most of the rides. Well see how much more he grows between now/then. I'd like to do Universal too, but I think he'd like the other one a bit better & doing two parks in one day, there's just not enough time. Dh/I have been to Universal prior to kid, but it's been several yrs..

DS has been to Universal several times but only once to Islands of Adventure. I don't really remember that much about the park but I'm sure he had fun. We have since stayed away from it because of Harry Potter and the crowds it attracts. We are, however going to Islands of Adventure next weekend. We figure now that Despicable Me is open the crowds will probably be more evenly split between the two parks. We are staying on property so we get the free fast passes and get to enter the Harry Potter area an hour early. I will let you know how it was.

That'd be Great, Dragonfly! Thanks! Our son just turned 4, so while I'm sure he'd like MK, I'm thinking IoA he would enjoy much more(spiderman & the fact that he's tall enough now to ride)! We'll be there in Oct.!

My boys love Islands of Adventure they most. They are 8 and 6 but have been twice. Probably around 5 and 3 then, 6 and 4.

The spiderman ride is great. Boys loved it. Lots of chances to take pictures with the different super heroes and they have a superhero parade where they all ride out on their 3 wheelers. Very cool.
If you get to the park first thing in the morning everyone rushes to Harry Potter so the Suess landing and spiderman ride are pretty much empty b/c everyone high tails it to Harry Potter. Although that could have changed since it's been open for awhile although it is still the most popular ride.

Regarding Harry Potter, I think DS is only tall enough to ride the kiddy coaster there not the other two rides since he is only 46 inches tall. But I'm excited to see the shops and the restaurants.

What are the Spiderman ride and the kids coaster in HP like? My kids would like WWoHP but I can't really stomach spending the money just to see that. They might like some of the Seuss stuff, but they do not do roller coasters or thrill rides. Is there enough at IoA to make it worthwhile for us?

I think the kiddy coaster is like Goofy's Barn Stormer they used to have at the MK. I don't know about the Spiderman Ride but I will report back next week.

I know they are rebranding Goofy's Barn Stormer, but is it not open in the meantime? We are headed to Disney World in February, and this was one of my kids' favorite rides last time we were there. I know they are looking forward to riding it again. If it is not going to be open, I'd like to prepare them for that and talk up some of the other rides. We're hoping DD will be 44" by then so she can go on some of the other roller coasters.

It wasn't open when we went earlier this year but I just checked their website and apparently it is open again.
