mkvh- You inspired me to get off my rump and upload my pictures.

We moved into our new house last March and have been doing minor updating all along. The most noticed improvement thus far is in the family room.

    Befores:

There was an odd indention beside the fireplace, probably originally intended for an entertainment center. Here is a better picture.

Shannon - the desk is such a great idea to make use of such an awkward space! Looks really good.

We just renovated our two bathrooms. This is the main bath that guests and our boys use (and I am pg with our third).

    Before:

    After:

Help! I have not selected linens yet. Ideally I wanted to use the same that we are using in our master, which are the items pictured here. I was going to use the same hand and bath towels and get the smaller bath mat. I wanted to do that for simplicity sake when it comes to storage and laundry. However, I am not sure if I should use a fingertip towel instead on the ring (and this line of towels does not come in fingertip size), and I am not sure how these towels look hanging on the hooks. I grew up in a small house with 3 kids, and my parents eventually just put three towel rings up. I did not have room for rings so had them put in three hooks, and I know it's not perfect design but I really don't care. I think they would look super cute with hooded towels hanging, but we really don't use hooded towels with the boys anymore and I hate how long they take to dry. Would you use these towels or others?

Also, what type of artwork would you put above the towel hooks? I don't want anything cutesy but nothing too "adult" either.

Taurus, that is a great remodel. Looks fantastic.
Honestly, if using the same towels make life easier for laundry and storage, I think they look fine. You could get a coordinating hand towel or fingertip towel that doesn't have to be the same line and it would look fine since everything is so neutral. However, if you are using it regularly for kids, I find fingertip towels get wetter since they have less area and thus, don't tend to work well even throughout the day.

Nice job!!! I love the contrast of the very dark wood and light towels.

I too think fingertip towels are a bit of a waste in anything but a seldom-used powder room. And I for one LOVE the hooks you chose. I even thought that before I read your question. I don't know that you need artwork...although I have a neat metal wall hanging of the word "Wash" that I have in my bathroom that I immediately thought of when I saw the space.

As for the towels, they're fine. Neutral. I think if it were me, I'd get the lighter of the two browns (?) in the shower curtain and use that for my "display" towels when guests come over. Other than that I tend to choose towels I like in a neutral for every day.

thanks! really helpful feedback from you both. i wasn't sure if these hand towels looked too large for the space. you know how some sets the hand towels are smaller and some larger? these are on the larger side as far as hand towels go.

i like the hooks as well but with three towels hanging there and no "hook" showing I don't know how good it will look. oh well. i wanted to think ahead but at the same time i hope we aren't in this house that long!! i remember my parents did the three towel ring thing and if a towel was missing they knew who hadn't hung theirs up.
