I agree about the article. When babycenter emailed it to me I was freaked out reading it but now after hearing everyones opinion and re reading it--there really aren't a lot of facts. I know so many of my friends that have had m/c or even friends of friends that had m/cs and went on to have no problems in the next pregnancy. Sorry if I freaked anyone out.

Waving hello to all my friends!

I wanted to drop in and say hello and see how everyone's doing. It looks like you ladies all have a plan-- that's fantastic! You all remain in my prayers.

article- what a vague article! I guess I can kinda, sorta see what it's saying, but it doesn't differentiate b/w the causes of m/c.

If it's a progesterone issue, cervix issue, blood clotting issue, then yes-- I can see why there could be complications in the future unless they're address before or very early in the p/g.

But, if it's a chromosomal issue (the most common), then it's 'luck of the draw.'

This is what I posted regarding that article yesterday in the TTC after a Loss thread:

love There is not enough information in that article for me. I glean absolutely nothing for it....I think we'll be nervous enough getting pg again all on our own. Really-I've never read anything like that, so I'm going to take it like a grain of salt & hope you do the same.
I really don't think there's enough information (fact) in there to draw any sort of conclusions. When I had my miscarriage, I had 3 people in my office of 15 people that came to me with miscarriage stories...all who had healthy and successful pregnancies in their following pregnancy. 2 of them were pg within 6 months after mc.

I totally agree with the article but it kinda made me scared. Now hearing everyone else saying the article seemed to lack fact I feel 100% better. Thanks for all who gave their input and sorry to anyone who may have been freaked out about it.

mcgwigan - I agree with you about waiting - I like how you think. And yes, I have a DC already so we have tons of stuff!!! I don't know if it makes a difference D&C vs D&E but I had a D&E and my AF came back a few days shy of 4 weeks afterwards.

JMD - I am feeling better, thank you!

Re: article - if I'm reading this correctly, it sounds like out of the 32,000 women they studied, only 1561 had a previous miscarriage? That seems like a very low number to be drawing conclusions from (though I am not a statistician). It is only 4% of the population they studied, and isn't the general rate of miscarriage much higher than that?

I also wonder what they mean by "complications." The article mentions induction - is that really a complication? And how many of those inductions were truly needed? I know that I would be more likely to accept an intervention like that now than I would have been before miscarrying. Meaning - I think there is a psychological effect of miscarrying which may make women more likely to accept/seek out/etc. interventions.

Like everyone else, I feel the article is very light on actual facts. I am typically suspect of statistics like that also, because there are a lot of factors that the study didn't seem to take into account (maybe it did, but the article doesn't say so).

ctjo A D&C is actually a dialation & curettage (scraping). My dr called it a D&C but said that they use a suction, rather than scraping the uterus.

The "spotting" that I had in December was just over 3 weeks after D&C so I was assuming that it was too early (and light)for AF. However, if AF shows sometime within the next week, then I will assume that it must have been AF in December (which would also mean I would have missed a chance at trying this cycle-but oh, well).

It's much more fun to obsess over TTC than when will AF come so that I can start TTC!

mcgwigan--Your AF is really a PITA. I'm sorry it's causing you such problems. I think you're right--let's declare that your spotting episode 3 weeks after the D&E was "AF lite" and that you're just back in your cycle now. That way, maybe your body will make up it's mind & set things straight. Of course, you could always use the tried and true method of getting AF to arrive--wear white/cream pants out in public without protection! Never fails!

    bethnjim-yay for AF.
    tandt--good to see you.
sunshine--crossing my fingers for no complications for you.
article--decided not to read it based on comments posted here. Stressed enough as it is already.

me--finally TTC this cycle (today is CD3). I'll be mostly hanging out in the TTC after loss thread. Glad to see many of you ladies over there, come one come all!

    Hi to everyone else.

Hi Everyone--I absolutely agree with the "no facts" to back up the article. I had LOTS of women tell me that they miscarried and went on to carry healthy babies. My gyno told me that there was NO reason for my ectopic and it was a fluke.

bug---yeah for TTC this month!! Happy trying!!

As for me, I called my gyno to try and schedule my HSG. They only had one appt left for this month and it is on a day where I can't leave my job for ANY REASON. I asked them to check the next day and they were beyond RUDE. Very snippy and told me that I could take it or wait or my next cycle. I explained that I teach children with autism and there is a situation happening at my school that day that prevents me from leaving. They are so not accommodating at all. I am going to call them this morning and keep bugging them to check Friday...they offered me Thursday. Hopefully I can get in...if not, than we are nixing HSG and trying on our own to see what happens!! We don't want to push back TTC another month.

Oh and I forgot to mention that I re-set my Clearblue Fertility Monitor and will begin using that this month as well. I wanted to give it a month to get used to my cycle again...
