    i can't just pick one!

"but every day should be a good day to die" -- DMB, "you never know"

"you say, love is a temple, love the higher law, love is a temple, love the higher law... you ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl, but i can't be holding on to what you got, when all you got is hurt." --u2, "one"

"and who'd have thought tomorrow would be so strange?" --REM, "e-bow the letter"

"there's no passion in perfection." --agents of good roots, "jacob"

"but just stay while the stone throwers play...let all of your questions of virtue chase answers away. dance with the darkness and lie with the breeze, harbor your vessels and the things that you please. you have been bought, you have been sold. you have my heart, you have my soul. stand for the lost and the soldiers who fell, bury your anchor in the stories you tell... yeah, but salient fortune it springs from the core, ride in the saddle we'll settle our intimate war" --rockwell church, "intimate war"

There are two lines that I love from Phantom of the Opera's "All I Ask of You." They are: "Love me, that's all I ask of you" and "Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime"

One of my best friends kept a promise she made to me 3 years prior and sang this song at my 1997 wedding (with a friend of DH's). It was one of the most beautiful moments of my wedding.

The song also provided the cover phrase for my wedding programs: "One Love, One Lifetime"

    Ray Lamontagne's "Jolene"

A man needs something he can hold on to,
a nine pound hammer or a woman like you.

It's the best song about desperation without actually using the word.

I saw Dylan in concert earlier this year. Couldn't understand a word he said (except for the 3rd line of Highway 61), but we had fun anyway and discovered a new singer named Amos Lee.

As for favorite lyrics, there are way to many to list here, but one or two that always run through my head:

    And sometimes even music
    Cannot substitute for tears
    - Paul Simon, The Cool Cool River

This is a running joke in our family:
    Look out kid
    They keep it all hid
    Better jump down a manhole
    Light yourself a candle
    Don't wear sandals
    Try to avoid the scandals
    Don't wanna be a bum
    You better chew gum
    The pump don't work
'Cause the vandals took the handles
    -Dylan, Subterranean Homesick Blues

All I need is food and creative love.
    - Rusted Root, Food & Creative Love

See me, want me, give me, trust me
Feed me, f*ck me, love me, touch me
This whole world is cold and ugly
What we are is low and lovely
I am the most beautiful boogie man
    The most beautiful boogie man
Let me be your famous nightmare
Close your eyes and ill be right there
    While...Open...All...Over...A-gain
    -Mos Def, Boogie Man Song
    Shiny!

Mysteries- don't ever try to solve them. We're just players in the game and no one's keepin' score. So go ahead, have your fun and tell your story. Find yourself a lover who will glue you to the floor.~ Jimmy Buffett, "Love & Luck"

And in the darkened underpass I thought oh God my chance has come at last
but then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask...

Just about anything by the Indigo Girls, but I particularly like:

"You can go to the East
    To find your inner hemisphere.
You say we're under the same sky babe,
You're bound to realize, Honey, it's not that clear.
    I'm not your promise land
    I'm not your promise one
I'm not your Land of Canaan, sweetheart,
Waiting for you under the sun."
    (from "Land of Canaan")

    and

"The best thing you've ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all
Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear."
    (from "Closer to Fine")

    And the Boss

God's drifting in heaven, devil's in the mailbox
I got dust on my shoes, nothing but teardrops
    - You're Missing from The Rising Album

This song brings tears to my eyes everytime I listen.

ignutzz At a Dylan concert a few years ago there was a sign language interpretor who tried so hard to follow along with Dylan but finally just raised his hands and shook his head in confusion. Poor guy! My nickname for Bob is mumblelina but I do love his music.
