Why is it that your not supposed to let your heartrate get above a certain number? I remember when i was pg with DS and I walked on the treadmill my heartrate would get up to that and I wasnt even going fast.
The ACOG hasn't recommend a heart rate for a little while now, the suggestion is now perceived exertion. If you can talk normally, your heart rate is fine.
Try to exercise moderately so you don't get tired quickly. If you are able to talk normally while exercising, your heart rate is at an acceptable level.

Yes, I was told 140 bmp as well. I thought it had to do with getting yourself/your body over heated and exertion.
I had a similar expereince to yours, I had to walk sooooooo slow on the eliptical to keep below 140 that I felt stupid for even being on the machine.
But I did find that doing a weight training class, it was very easy to keep below 140bmp except for during squats and lunges, so I just used a little less weight for those exercises. If your open to some kind of class like that.
I took that class until about 5 months. We did a lot of upper body exercises while laying on an inclined bench and once my belly got to big, I was literally rolling off the bench to get up. That was my sign that it was time to give it up.
