Default President-elect Barack Obama - looking ahead to January 2009

Now that it's "official" and Barack Obama is the President-Elect, I thought we should start a new thread to discuss his transition into the White House in January 2009. Let's move past the partisan threads we had going before the general election and look towards the transition.

First QOTD: When do you guys think we will start to hear about any of his Cabinet appointments? Also, how do you think will get appointments?

I heard on the news today that Mayor Shirley Franklin of Atlanta was a possibility for a cabinet position. I have to say - I hope not. These past few years of her tenure in Atlanta have been extremely difficult aand she has constantly been at the center of controversy. I realize she inherited many. many problems but I don't see her being able to cope well at a national level. I would hate to think she would be nominated as a payback for strong Atlanta support.

FWIW - I am an Obama supporter and actual support Franklin on many issues. I just don't think she is qualified at a national level.

I really want to see Chuck Hagel in a Cabinet-level position. I've had the chance to hear him speak several times, and I've always been very impressed with his foreign policy understanding and his commitment to engaging with the world. Plus I'm really angry that he was essentially forced to retire for being too moderate (the GOP backed a right-wing challenger against him, so he decided not to run again), and this would be a nice way to stick it to the extremists, while giving Obama the chance to show that he's serious about being bipartisan in his administration.

PG I agree. I think Hagel would be an excellent choice, both from a bi-partison viewpoint and a foreign policy viewpoint - where we have so much work to do. I really also hope to see strong players with regard to the domestic economy.

Default Another Kennedy in the White House?

I've read some buzz that Robert Kennedy Jr. is in the running to head the EPA. He said that if he's asked, he will serve the new administration in any capacity.

Here's a projection: Golden Retriever, and I would not be surprised if that puppy is a gift from Oprah Winfrey (she loves Goldies, and dogs in general, and they are the BEST family dogs EVER, and she has the connections and money, to get the very best bloodlines availible)

Just my random thought of the moment
