The magazines that have an app are much easier to read than the ones that do not on the Fire. If they don't have an app, I'll skim the pages and then use "text mode" to read an article that piques my interest.

I already have the basic black & white kindle. I am now currently considering the new(er) version on the Kindle Fire (HD). I think it would be great for our road trip. How many freebies are already installed/come with, on the kindle fire?
For those that have the new HD one, how do you like it?
Well, not much really comes with or installed on the Kindle Fire. You have to download most of the apps, but there are 100's of free apps, and it doesn't take long to just go into the app store and start clicking and downloading the apps.
littlebear, would I be able to transfer/use some of the same apps, books Or games previously bought on my current kindle, that is, if I use the same acct.?
anyone else liking the new(er) version of the kindle HD?
I think you can use the same apps and books on each Kindle. I can transfer between my Fire and my Droid without issue. My problem is that the Amazon Appstore is lacking compared to the iTunes store and even the Google Play store.
Yes. I have two Fires and three regular Kindles all on one Amazon account (basically everyone in our house uses that account), and once I purchase or download something it is available on the cloud. You can transfer it from the cloud to any of the devices linked to that account. I guess it depends on the types of apps that you use. I've been able to get pretty much everything that I get through Google Play through the Amazon appstore as well.
I kind of want to sell my Kindle, since I never use it anymore (I read through the Kindle app on my iPad instead). But I paid around $200 for the Kindle and case about a year and a half ago - Kindles are now dirt cheap at $69, so I would take a huge loss!
OK, so for Weezlana here is my Kindle Fire HD review (short and to the point): Very light, easy to hold, screen is just right for the weight (any bigger and the lightweight factor would be compromised), VERY good color and screen quality...really impressed with it so far after watching half of an episode of Firefly, and a few minutes of Sid the Science Kid. Sound is so much better than the iPad I can't even compare them. I always use my headphones when watching a show in the iPad but I would watch this without and it would sound great. Reading is very good in the house after 2 chapters of my book, but I have not used it outside in the sun yet so I can't comment there. Maybe tomorrow. I like how it feels in my hand and it fits in the side pocket of my purse. I definitely see myself using this a lot more often than the iPad.
I haven't done my e-mail yet, but I have already downloaded a few free kids episodes of shows and my music from the Cloud, as well as my Kindle books, and it's all worked very quickly and seamlessly. And the best part, I did it all without a computer, right out of the box. I was watching Firefly about 3 minutes after I opened it up (not even kidding, 3 minutes). It came almost fully charged. It only comes with the USB charger, but it fits my existing iPad charger plugs so it won't be an issue, we have like 5 of those things around the house.
For comparison I stopped by the Apple store at the mall today and picked up an iPad mini. It felt weird in my hand, too thin, and the bezel on around the side is so narrow my thumb covered up the screen as I held it. I initially thought the bezel on the Kindle seemed a little wide but now I see why. I like the feel of the soft "matte" finish on the back of the kindle better.
So, that's my impression after one afternoon of using it. I plan to get more use out of it tomorrow, and check out the Kindle Free Time kids thing.

I'm looking at the paperwhite and wondering if anyone knows what the difference between the kindle with ads and without ads is? According to the description, amazon says the ads only show up when you're not reading. So, are the ads that disruptive? Just curious to see if anyone has seen both and compared the two. I can't totally tell from the reviews. I know, for $20 more, maybe I shouldn't even worry about it and just get the no-ads one. But I still want to know.
I have the kindle keyboard with special offers and I like it. The offers are on the screensaver and on a small banner on the home screen. There are no ads on the book pages. I am going to buy a second kindle (just for reading) and can't decide if I want the paper white or the regular kindle. I don't know if I would like the touch screen on the paper white (hello smudges!) but I would love the built in light.
