Default How long for uterus to shrink?

How long after delivery does it take for your uterus to contract back down to its normal size?

I'm just over 3 weeks postpartum, and I can feel the fundus still about an inch above my belly button. I can't remember being able to feel that after giving birth last time, so I'm curious if anyone knows what the time estimate is. When I gave birth I was measuring about 37 weeks, I think.

I think my doctor told me 4-6 weeks last time. I remember him saying it should be back to it's normal size by my 6 week follow up. I am not sure if the same applies to twin pregnancies or not.

I've heard the 6 week thing, too. I've also heard it takes longer with c/s.

Thanks, Michelle & Pookie! I don't know if the twin thing factors in, because mine were born so early that I wasn't measuring crazy far ahead. But I didn't think about the c-section thing.

Mine was below my belly button before I checked out of the hospital and back to normal by my 6-week checkup. But I had a vaginal delivery.

At my 1 month post partum check up, my OB informed me that my uterus had already returned to its normal non-preggo size.

I should update--I went in late for my checkup and I was 7 weeks PP. The OB said it still wasn't its normal size and said it would probably take 2-3 more weeks. Not sure why it's going so slow, especially because I healed really fast from the c-section, but I guess there's just a range for this!
