Mairin will definitely be starting K next year...however, like magrat, i wish there was a half day option where we live. this year her preschool meetings 4 mornings a week (9-12, M - Th) as opposed to last year when it was just 2 mornings a week. i just hate the thought of shipping her off to full-day school practically as soon as she turns 5!! it seems so young to me and i wish i could spend more time with her.
but i know she is ready. she is very mature and loves doing activities / projects / worksheets of any kind. she's also a huge rule-follower -- typical first child! right now she is working on practicing writing her letters and she is very good at sounding out words / spelling them out. anyway, i'm confident that she'll do well, i just want to keep her home with me.

This is exactly how I feel. Our district offers full-day, half-day, and transitional (goes from 1/2 to full mid-year) kindergarten. I put DS in full-day (though at a private school) and had assumed I would do the same with DD. Now that it's only 11 months away (sob!), I'm thinking I'll send her only 1/2 day (entirely for
selfish reasons b/c I love to spend time with her)!
Eve had her early childhood screening the other day and did great in everything but articulation. I made an appointment with a speech therapist and they gave me a huge 12 page form to fill out. This thread has proved so helpful in filling it out, I even posted when she fed herself with a spoon the first time, I had no idea there was any record for that! I think we'll be doing a two-fer with the speech therapy - DD had 19 words at 19 months, DS has 2. I'm looking forward to her evaluation so much, and to getting some help for her. I would have done it last year if her teachers and doctors didn't keep telling me she was fine and not to worry. Her most obvious delay is not saying K or G - coat is toat for instance. She also says W for R and L. And I don't notice in real life, but in video she always sounds like she has a stuffy nose, so nose sounds a bit like dose. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the speech pathologist is going to identify distortions I'm not even hearing because I'm so used it.

Happy 5th birthday everyone! Eve is very excited about kindergarten and has become so independent. She's having her first sleepover at a friend's house on Friday (with the option to come home if she's scared). She had her five year check up today and was 46" (95%), 48lb 6oz (90%). No wonder she outgrows her clothes so fast.

Good idea checking in - magrat! Happy 5th to everyone! Millie weighs 47lbs & is 44in. She'll be starting full-day K in the fall. If I weren't due w/#3, then I would have put her in 1/2 day, so I'm feeling some guilt, but I know it'll be better all around to have her in school full-time. I'm terrified about how tired she'll be, though, and how tough the witching hours are going to be!
I'm terrified of how tired she's going to be when kindergarten starts too. She's still napping and would every day if I weren't trying to wean her off it. The days she doesn't take a nap now she's going to bed at her usual time but sleeping in an hour or more later in the morning. She won't be able to do that when school starts.
