    Default Terrible diet

Is anyone else guilty of terrible eating habits during their pregnancy? I feel so guilty. I'm 14 weeks, and this is my 2nd pregnancy. The first time around, I had almost no nausea, I worked out 4-5x/week, and while I indulged plenty, I ate lots of salads, vegetables, etc. This time, I'm too tired to exercise during the week, so I've been going to the gym on Saturdays only. I have had all day nausea that won't go away, and can't bring myself to eat anything remotely healthy. I promised myself this morning that I would eat a salad for lunch with lots of veggies and protein. When noon came, the thought of a salad made me feel so sick, so I went to Wendy's and had a burger, fries and a frosty. I take a daily prenatal vitamin, but I know it's not a subsitute for eating well. Can anyone else commisserate?

    Oh yea....

Not pregnant currently but with my last 2 pregnancies (both babies born healthy and a good weight) I ate like CRAP! McDonalds was my best friend (I swear my pregnancy craving with both were McD's Filet of Fish sandwiches) and I drank SO MUCH soda I did eat veggies, fruits, ect as well but my junky foods far outweighed my good foods.

Yes, me. I am 22 weeks and I've been horribly sick...so I've eaten nothing but junk since day one. Really the only thing I've been able to keep down is ice cream, cereal, and toast. I won't even go into how much weight I've gained.

Ack, this is one reason why I dislike being pregnant - there are so many things you "should" do and a bunch of guilt if you don't do them. My daily struggle is to try to drink enough fluids. I actually dislike drinking and usually only drink (whn not pregnant) if really thirsty. However, I'm having twins and my OB has been really onto me to drink, drink, drink. So, I'm doing my best (although not great) with that. So, I'm forcing myself to drink, I'm not going to force myself to eat a healthy salad with lots of veggies when my body says it wants McDonalds. Yep, I eat a lot of crap. Even DH has commented on how many McD bags there are in the garbage! Oh well, c'est la vie.

Yep, that's me. I get a lot of comments from people that since I am skinny it doesn't matter if I gain a lot of weight while pregnant. While I don't think that is true at all I do feel that in the beginning I have a little room to grow that doesn't necessarily count as pregnancy weight. (i.e. Even gaining the first 15 pounds I am still within my ideal weight for my height, so that is *sorta* OK.) I still feel terrible about my eating habits and I know I should still try to eat healthy. I have terrible acid reflux when not pregnant and for some reason it goes away when I am pregnant. So while not pregnant I feel sick whenever I eat after only a few bites. I never get to finish a meal. While pregnant I can sit down to a plate of food and finish it and that just feels SO GOOD!

It doesn't help that I have major cravings for ho-ho's, milkshakes, pastries and fried foods! I feel physically better when I eat foods that are higher in fat and sugar, but mentally I feel so much guilt.

The other day I was starting to get kinda shaky while out visiting a client so I stopped at the only tiny convenience shop around for a candy bar. Well they had a $10 limit for credit card purchases so I ended up buying 3 candy bars and a few other things. Sadly enough I ate all 3 candy bars that day!!!! Thinking about it makes me feel sick but boy did they taste good.... they were Snickers. At least I got some protein from the peanuts, right?

My diet is definitely not great these days. Hardly any fruits or veggies (thank goodness for the prenatal vitamin!). It seems I crave processed foods And I'm having to work to drink enough water.

I think it's 100% normal and OK for your diet to be not-so-great during pregnancy. After all your taste buds are completely out of whack and let's not even start with the nausea! I think as long as there are a few good foods thrown in at times it's fine. I'm not terribly worried about it but when I do think about what I'm actually eating it does seem pretty bad!

I should also mention that I talk with my midwife about this at every appointment. I flat-out tell her how bad my eating habits are. My old dr would lecture me on my weight gain (I gained 50 lbs total) without even asking what my eating habits were. That just pissed me off. My midwife does not lecture me. She tells it like it is. I probably will gain more than the recommended 25-35 pounds. Is it the end of the world? No. My last baby was average weight when born so she has no reason to believe I am going to contribute to my baby getting too big in utero. She says that my biggest problems will be that I am less fit, which may make labor/delivery harder on my body and that the weight will be harder to lose. She also told me that my weight gain in my previous pregnancy and weight loss post partum can be great indicators of what to expect this time as well, although the weight might be harder to lose this time.

She goes on to recommend better snack options and tells me I shoudl walk 30 minutes a day and all that good stuff. Overall she helps me to feel that while my habits are not the healthiest that they are not also the end of the world and that she woudl be much more concerned for someone who starts off very overweight to begin with.

So while I still am not proud of how I eat and while I really do try to be healthier I have also stopped totally beating myself up over every little candy bar or ice cream cone.

I'm so glad someone started this thread. With DS, the first trimester was the only time I had REALLY bad cause everything else made me sick. Right now I'm 23 weeks and still really nauseaus. It seems like anytime I make myself eat really good, I get sick. Last night my family ate grilled chicken, baked potatoes and veggies, while I sat next to them and ate crap. (At least one of my kids was eating good, right?) I say you have to do what you have to go to get thru it.

My OB's have been pretty clear that they don't care what I eat just eat SOMETHING! They've had patients live on donuts the entire 1st trimester bc of the carbs helping them feel better. I like to think I'm a good mixture... I do eat fruits but I don't feel bad if I eat a Cinnabon either, lol.
