Winter Buscuit - I would be curious to see pictures of your house. Have you posted anything here at all?
That is weird that he was there but I would say that he was just curious as well. I know I am like that and would want to know who was buying my house. I still am curious who moved into my apartment after I moved out LOL

Sorry, I didn't see your post until just now. No, I have not posted any pics of my house on CC. I do have a Kodak Gallery album that I can PM you the link for, if you're interested.
We haven't seen the previous owner since he was "stalking" us on closing day, so I am quite confident that he was just curious to see who was moving in. I am not worried anymore and feel 100% safe here. I've also had the opportunity to meet several neighbors, and I've asked a few neighbors about him (I didn't mention what happened), and they all said he was a very honorable man, would never hurt a fly, etc. Nobody had a bad word to say about him. So that made me feel better, too. I guess I just couldn't help getting paranoid about it, though, considering how many times we were reminded about how upset/emotional he was about losing his house.
Lender's appraisal came in above what we're paying, so that's good. We had the inspection and the inspector found a few things that need to be fixed... the house is being sold as-is, so it will be up to us to make the repairs. Nothing major, hopefully not more than $500.

I'n reviving this thread as we begin the process ourselves. We made an offer on a short sale property on 4/2. Our realtor contacted the seller's agent today, and was told that our offer is a solid number, and that she expects that the bank will assign a negotiator by this Friday (4/9). I don't know how realistic that really is, but we'll see...
I am encouraged that the seller's agent is apparently working on several short sales right now, so this is not foreign to her. The house is vacant (the owner died) and has been on the market since last summer. The owner's estate is anxious to get matters settled, so I suppose it is possible that they have been in talks with the bank for a while. Here's hoping!
We went through many negotiators before we got an answer. There was always a reason why the file had to be reassigned. While a negotiator may very well could have been assigned... the file is probably one of many sitting on that person's desk. It's frustrating, I know. I learned to take their deadlines, usually self-imposed, with a grain of salt.
I am frustrated. Not by the waiting, because I knew that was part of the deal and it really hasn't been very long at all since we made our offer. I am frustrated because I feel like I am trying to find my way through a maze, blindfolded, with my realtor as my guide - and my realtor is just not a great communicator. I wish that I could just talk to the seller's agent directly!
What I think is going on at this point is that the lender has requested a completed net sheet. (I am hearing from my husband who heard from our agent who heard from... you get the idea.) I know that he said something about the bank wanting to know the details of all of the closing costs. I have no idea where that puts us in the process.
In the meantime, we found a house to rent short-term from the time we close on our current home until we move into our next - which will hopefully be this short sale.
