I love my canon g10, but my 2 year old got ahold of it and chipped the front lens, "I take pickers, Mama". Unfortunately, the cost of replacing the lens in this camera is almost the price of the camera itself. So I have decided to upgrade to a digital SLR and am interested in the Canon T2i or T3i. Are there any other cameras I should be looking at? I really want this to a be a camera that I can grow into, now that I have the time to dedicate to taking photography classes. Thanks!

If you're truly serious about wanting to take photography classes and learning to shoot, I would skip over the Rebel series and go right to the 60D. I've never owned anything in the Rebel series (I shoot with 5DmkII's) but on the few occasions I've been handed someone else's I've found shooting in manual on it to be a PITA (same thing for Nikon's consumer level camera). While many people do shoot manual on them fine, changing your settings requires going into the menu and that's just silly. I shoot on the fly, and I need all my controls at my fingertips. 99% of Rebel owners shoot on auto and so it's perfectly fine, but I think if you really plan to learn photography you will quickly be "over" the Rebel and ready to upgrade. Might as well start there. The 60D is still going to be more reasonable than the 7D or 5DmkII but better than the Rebel.

Don't ask the locals for directions, they already lost one colony!
RobynScott - Thank you so much for the info on the Canon loyalty program. How did I have no idea that it existed? They do have refurbished cameras that I am interested at a steal!
ManteoChik - I was hoping you would respond (you gave me some good camera advise when I bought my G11)! I hadn't realized most people used the rebel series on Auto. will seriously consider the 60D.
I spoke to canon customer service (which is fantastic, BTW) and they suggested I send my camera in to be evaluated to see if the chips in the lens are due to a known flaw in the camera (lens to close to the shutter). If it is, they will fix it at no charge, I am pretty sure that my 2 yo did the damage and explained that to the customer service rep, but they recommended sending it in to their repair center. It would be awesome if they would fix it, but now I find myself without a camera for the holidays.
I currently have a Cannon, a couple years old. For outside, simple pictures it's fine. But the 5x zoom leaves a lot to be desired. It also does terribly in low light & the shutter speed is AWFUL. It's also bulky. I'd like more of a pocket size camera.
Recs?
Bumping again. I need a small~er camera with a good zoom that I can use for an upcoming graduation as well as cruise. Basically I need a compact, good qualit all purpose camera.
Any ideas?

The Canon G series are fantastic cameras. I think the current model out right now is the G12. I'll warn you though, they aren't cheap - around $450.
You can certainly find used ones in good condition, or older models at B&H or Adorama - like this one:
Bump.
I have lost my camera and need to replace it. I'd like to stay under or around $600ish. I should preface that I am not good about technology or reading manuals. If I am completely honest I just want to be able to take professional looking pictures without knowing how. I want a camera to do that for me. Since that is likely impossible, what I do know that I want is a quick shutter speed. I find that with DS almost 3, he won't be still in order for me to take a good picture, so it seems like I am "just" missing the picture that I wanted to take. I don't know that I would have the patience to learn a DSLR--or the extra $. I want something more advanced then a point and shoot.
I've done some research online, but does anyone have a camera that they would recommend? I haven't read the thread yet so I'll do that next. Thanks!
