So, my SO just bought a new construction house. It will be ready this week. We went on Wednesday to have a "pre-walk through" to make sure everything was fixed before my SO closed on the house this week. When we went into the master bathroom there were urine drops on the toilet seat, it grossed me out but I wasn't really mad about it. I think they should have at least lifted the seat and if they dripped they should have been the one to wipe it up. My SO told the superintendant in charge of our house and he said he would handle it. We went back on Saturday to see if they fixed anything and there was even more urine on the seat. I am not talking like 3 or 4 drops, the urine covers a good third of the toilet seat. This time we mentioned it to our salesperson and she had us fill out a complaint form because they can actually get fired for using our toilet. We obviously don't want anyone to lose their job over this and I can't say I blame them because the closest port-a-potty is 2 streets over but it just really grosses us out. Obviously they will clean the toilets before we move in and I will sanitize as well. I guess there was one guy that had pee on his toilets and he made them replace every single toilet in the house because he didn't want anyone elses butt on it but his.
Do you think it is gross? Would you have complained? Would you have taken it farther? Just curious.
Gross.Out. You know, I have to see pee on toliet seats all day long at work and am pretty much resigned to it. But in my own home, when the pee doesn't belong to me or my SO...heck yeah, I would have complained about it without thinking twice. And I wouldn't care that I hadn't moved in yet. If the workers know that they aren't allowed to use them but do so anyway, then they should expect to be called on it if they are caught.
I know, it is bad enough seeing my SO's pee on the toilet. lol.
I definitetly think they should be held accountable but I don't want to be responsible for someone losing their job, that is just not right IMO, especially with the economy right now.
yes, I would be grossed out. I would've complained as well but prob would've left it at that. It would be unrealistic to think that NO ONE would use the toilets in the house before we took ownership (I don't think they should but I'm sure it happens). However, if someone did use it, I would hope they'd have the decency to not leave evidence that the bathroom had been used. We've bought 2 new construction homes and it would not be uncommon for us to smell/see urine in bath tubs when we'd visit the home site. There would be leftover food/trash everywhere and who knows if that stuff got dry walled in. We've had friends who've gone to check out their home under construction and see sh*t (as in poop) just sitting on the floor somewhere.
Now that is gross. We went there pretty often and never saw food or poop, thank goodness. A friend of mine on LJ mentioned, I wonder what they were doing to go to the bathroom before the plumbing was in. I don't even want to think of that!
Eh, I don't know if it'd bug me. It'd bug me that they didn't clean up after they used the toilet, but not that they used it, kwim? I'd probably complain once and be over it.
I guess I'll be the voice of dissent here but I wouldn't have even raised it as a question. Yeah, it's gross that there's urine on your toilet seat. Is it going to be cleaned and sanitized before you ever sit on it? Yes. Construction sites can be gross and dirty and it really depends on the superintendents on the job as to how bad it gets. I just wouldn't have freaked out over some old pee.
I just think about my own house and the fact that it is almost 50 years old - imagine, all those butts that have sat on MY toilet!!
I definitely think it's gross and I would have complained. It's one thing to know that people are likely using the bathroom and a far different thing to actually see it! Ewww yuck!
I wonder what they were doing to go to the bathroom before the plumbing was in. I don't even want to think of that!
I'm currently living in my 3rd new construction home since 2002 so I've always moved into several neighborhoods still under construction. It's not that gross really they do their business in the drains before the toilets etc. are installed. Something I wish I didn't know but unfortunately witnessed. Totally uncool though.
I would have done as much as you did and probably remembered to note it when you get their customer satisfaction survey. What bugs me is after you complained it happened again meaning your first complaint went nowhere. That's unacceptable. As long as it mattered to you it should have stopped. I think they should get fired for using toilets.
I worked at a new apartment complex once (started while many apartments were still being finished). Many very gross things were done/found in the apartments. They would even do their laundry in the brand new washers/dryers. I think a few of them stayed overnight in the apartments sometimes.
Anyway, we also bought a new construction home and as soon as we closed I came in with heavy duty cleaning products and cleaned every appliance/bathroom fixture/floor thoroughly.
I personally would not want someone fired for it, but I would definitely tell them to thoroughly clean it ASAP.
