Focus on relaxing one body part at a time -your eyes, your neck, your arms, your hands, your legs, your feet -just concentrate on relaxing each part and keeping it relaxed. If you tense up during a contraction it will make it more painful so the more you're able to relax the better.
This exactly. Relaxing is so very important IMO with unmedicated childbirth. I wrote DD1s birth earlier in this thread, and DD2 was unmedicated also. I studied Hypnobabies with #2 even though I was able to relax pretty well naturally w/#1. I figured the more the better! And it was much better with my second labor, up until the pushing phase. I hadn't gotten to the pushing tracks yet (she was 2 wks early) so I was unprepared and baby #2 rocketed out of me without any nice controlled pushing.
But up until that part I was able to focus on relaxing thru contractions and found them quite manageable.
