    Default Dishwasher retaining water

I ran my dishwasher yesterday morning before I left for work. Last night, as I was unloading it, I noticed standing water in the bottom. It's about 2-3 inches deep and I don't know how to get it to drain. Any suggestions before calling a plumber?

do you have it hooked up to a disposal? if so make sure you run the disposal, maybe it's clogged.

make sure nothing is covering the drain in the bottom of the dishwasher.

that's all i can think of.

Was there any food on the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher? DH never rinses dishes before putting his in ours and it always results in water in the bottom.

If it's not that, I agree it could be because of a disposal, if you have one.

    We don't have a disposal.

A glass did break. I removed all the glass I could see, but the water didn't drain.

Do you have a cancel button? On mine, I can push that and then shut the door (or push start if that's how yours works) and the washer will drain.

Keep an eye on it - I thought that my DW wasn't draining, but it turned out it had a faulty inlet valve and was slowly letting water in.

You have a clog. Try running an empty cycle. If that doesn't work, you will have to call a plumber because something can be stuck in your pipes.

My dishwasher does this when the program didn't finish all the way (when DH opens it before it's done ). It only drains at the very end of the cycle. Try running a short cycle empty and make sure it finishes.

Thank you for all of your help!

I tried to run an empty cycle and realized that it wouldn't turn on at all. At that point, I called a couple of plumbers. One told me it sounded like the pump had gone out and I should call the appliance company. I do have a fairly handy friend that is going to take a look at it for me tonight. Here's hoping it's an inexpensive fix.
