I'm hosting an Ice Cream Social for my High School Reunion. I'm curious what others would put on their list of things needed to make an ice cream social great.
What flavors of ice cream?
How much to buy?
Toppings?
Cones or just bowls?
Drinks?
What flavors of ice cream? I'd do the basics: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and maybe a few more popular ones, like cookies & cream, chocolate chip, etc. How much to buy? I would plan on a few scoops per person, so just do that math and go from there. Toppings? Whipped cream, sprinkles, syrup (chocolate, strawberry, caramel), nuts, crushed cookies & candy, fruit (go to any Marble Slab or similar ice cream place for fun ideas!) Cones or just bowls? I'd do both, though instead of regular bowls you can buy waffle cone bowls. Portable, no trash, and yummy! Drinks? Water, soda, iced tea, lemonade

That sounds like fun! I would stick with the basics - vanilla, chocolate, and maybe strawberry ice cream. A half gallon should serve 8-10 people - but that depends on how many scoops you're giving, too!
When I serve ice cream, I like to use those little bowl-shaped waffle cones. Bowl and cone all in one.
As for toppings, the basics - hot fudge, caramel, strawberry, marshmallow, whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, and cherries should suffice.
Drinks - I would just serve bottled water (or seltzer). You don't really need sugary soda drinks with ice cream!
What flavors of ice cream? vanilla, strawberry and chocolate How much to buy?I'd say buy the really big tubs - and how many depends upon how many people are coming. Toppings? Hot fudge, strawberry, caramel, whipped cream, sprinkles Cones or just bowls? Just bowls Drinks? water, iced tea
We just went to playgroup the other day and the hostess did this. She had a big tub of vanilla ice cream (but you could do the chocolate and vanilla too), hot fudge, sprinkles, crushed oreos, crushed butterfingers, and m&ms. Maybe some fruit topping would be good as well. Oh, she also offered coke floats too. She just had bowls, but I like the idea of the waffle cone bowls. As for drinks, I agree that sugary drinks aren't necessary, but I'd probaby still have some sodas just in case, along with bottled water.

I love everyone's suggestions so far, especially the waffle bowls. As far as toppings go, I'd probably add some fruit (bananas, strawberries or whatever berries are on special). I'd also have some whipped cream and nuts.
How all out do you want to go? What kind of budget do you have...how many people...how long will it be and when is it....what reunion is it....these things make a difference. There are some cute ideas I have seen.
