Brink: I would think it would depend on how they are gaining weight and where they are on the growth chart. I wouldn't think it would matter much if they are only getting 20% formula though. My boys were on Neosure until they turned 1 but that was only b/c insurance paid for it. Otherwise I would have put them on Nestle Good Start.

"He continually measure at 3-4% for weight, but is in the 80% for height. I am getting tired of the doctor (we have changed insurance 2 times) always saying something about his weight. Hello, he was 5 pounds when we was born! It just gets frustrating to always have to justify what he eat, that he drinks whole milk...Anyone else's doc give them grief about weight?"
Wow, Ferris does that sound familiar.... Do we have the same doc or what.
Jacob is the same way for a bit he weighed more but now he is 3-4% in weight and 77% for height - hasn't had his 9 mo WBV yet it will be this Friday curious to find out where he is. Last time I had to start journaling his eating just to make sure she wouldn't give me a hard time about his weight and purposely asked them to measure his height too, that way I could show he was growing even if his weight was low.

Did anyone have kids who stayed small? I had 34-week twins who were big for their gestational age (5lb 3oz and 5lb 13oz) but, of course, small in absolute terms. While DS has been playing catch up (he's up to almost 13 pounts and the 25th percentile), DD is still tiny. Like still not 10 pounds tiny. (9lb 11oz at our last visit, which was at about 3.5 months) Is there any hope that she'll start catching up soon? Our ped hasn't been upset with her weight since she's gaining at a normal rate -- she's following the weight gain curve even if she's well under it. But I feel like I'm doing something wrong when I see all these huge babies.
myangelsvw My DS just had his 2 year check-up. He was born at 5lbs 5oz, he has always been tiny in the 3-4%. At today's appointment he weighted 25lbs 4oz! He's moved up to the 16%. He had always been small (with weight, he's 76% for height) and the doc said he will probable remain on the lighter side. She said to keep him on whole milk for awhile longer.
I totally know what you mean about doing something wrong when you see these huge babies! You have to remember most of them weighted 3lbs more at birth and that is a lot when they only weight 8 lbs! You aren't doing anything wrong!

So glad to see this thread going. Two of mine were small babies. My daughter was 6 lbs. 2 oz. My youngest was 6 lbs. 5 oz.
My daughter is still the tiniest thing. She will be 4 next month and she 38 inches tall and weighs 27 pounds. People rarely believe how old she is when they look at her size.
My youngest on the other hand shed his tiny stature pretty quickly. He is 9 months old, 28 inches tall and weighs more than 20 pounds.
My youngest was born at 5lb 1oz with a development of a 34 weeker. He is now 19 months and the same weight his 5lb 13oz (at birth) brother at this same age - but wears bigger clothes due to having a broader build. His brother is 35 months, 3 ft tall, and 27lbs.
My DS was also 5 lbs 1 oz at birth and is and has been on the small side ever since - he has constantly other than one visit been between falling off the charts and the 3rd % for weight and between 25-50% in length. He is just not going to be a big guy but me and my DH are both small people both in stature and weight.
I'm not too worried I only weighed 16 lbs at one year old (was 7 lbs 6 oz at birth, gained less than 9 lbs my first year) and I turned out just fine - small and short but fine none the less.
They are doing well. Natalie started out on the vent, but has been off it since Wednedsday. Both girls are getting two bottle feeds a day right now. They just really need to get growing. Here they are at about 3hrs old:
