I did a search and didn't find anything...if someone else knows of something please feel free to combine threads!!
We're finally going to bite the bullet and spend the money on a cleaning service. I found a company on Craig's List, submitted our info and they came out this evening. He was here for almost an hour, we walked through the house room by room and he told me everything he'd do in each room etc.
He and his wife own the company, it's only the two of them that do the work because they are still small enough.
The quote was $101 every other week. We're 25 miles north of Boston. I was hoping for $75, but maybe that's unlikely in MA? I dunno. Anyway, our house is 2500 sq feet, he'd have to clean .... let's see, the kitchen, tv room, formal living room, dining room, 1.5 baths, 4brs and the library (i.e. the built in bookcase room upstairs).
Does that seem fair? We probably she could another quote. I really liked him though.
They do a deep cleaning the first time which is a whole day of cleaning basically, then every other time it's 3 hours.
I know there's other threads on this as well, but I didn't see them. Your quote seems on the high side, but not unrealistic, I think. Especially considering they're licensed and insured. We pay $70 every other week and have a 1900 square foot house, though she doesn't clean our third floor since we're under renovation. I'm not even sure I'd ask her to do those rooms once we're finished because we won't be using most of the space. I think we have an awesome rate and I love, love, love our woman. She's been with us over two years now and I consider her like family.
It's probably not a bad idea to get some other quotes but how you feel about someone is equally important. You're having people in your house so you need to trust them (whether you're there or not) and like them IMO.
Hiring a cleaning person was the best thing we could have done for our marriage and our home lives, congrats on making that step!
We've avoided it until this point because I hate to spend the $$. I really do. I feel like we should be able to do it etc...but with two working moms who have commutes and a toddler...we need help. Looks great though right now since I cleaned before they came to give us the quote .
My friends got a quote the other day from an org. that does job training...that was 60/every other week.
But that's job training vs these folks who have been in business for a long time. Hmm. DP is traveling so I haven't had the chance to talk with her yet about it. She'll be home late tonight so we'll see what she thinks.
Goodness, I hope it didn't sound like I was questioning why you'd want/need help! My comment was wistful, not critical . I'm one person with a teeny place in the city--I should be able to keep it clean. I just hate it. Hate. It. If I had another person here (let alone a child), I would be All Over the cleaning help.
Yes, I can see how the $ is difficult...that's a couple of nice-ish dinners out...or 10 cocktails...or whatever your unit of measure is (going from my latest visit to my godchild, 10 sets of Disney bath toys? Or a couple of overpriced but far-too-cute outfits?). Fortunately (?) I run right into shame and don't hit $.
I pay $60 every other week for one person to come in and clean my 850sf 2 br 1 ba house. She cleans the kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom and both bedrooms. She straightens everything up and will arrange flowers if I buy some and leave them out for her. We're currently planning on moving to a larger home, and I'm sure it will cost us more. But it is *so* worth every penny! And we don't even have kids!
I just talked to DP .... she didn't seem phased by the quote so we'll probably hire them. The idea of being able to entertain without having to freak out about getting the place perfect and when and how ... etc....it'll be worth it. I hope!!
