    Default Kitchen trash cans

I can't believe I am posting a thread about trash cans...

So our kitchen trash can broke recently (the pedal) and I am now looking for a new one - only I didn't remember that they were so expensive! Anyone have a kitchen trash can that they really like? Ideas definitely welcome.

Yeah, we had sticker shock when we looked for one last year. Some of the stainless steel are crazy expensive, not to mention I think impractical -- I certainly don't want to be dealing with finger prints on a trash can! We got one finally from either LNT or BBB after half-heartedly looking for a
while. Plus many of them are too small to be practical in a kitchen. The one we bought is either this or similar to it, but in white:

That's the one I have. I used a 20% off coupon to get it. I have it in stainless steel because it matches my appliances. I'm not too concerned about fingerprints. You can't be too concerned with fingerprints when you have a 15 month old.

I like this one because I can fit a pizza box in it and lots of other trash easily. It is 13 gallons, but most importantly...it is dog and childproof.

I also wanted a stainless steel trash can and ended up finding one I loved that was less expensive than the ones with a pedal. Mine uses batteries and an infrared sensor and opens automatically. I love it and it's quite the conversation piece.

A lot of places they are $80-$90 but I got mine at Sam's club for $57.

We made do with a very small pedal one for years, because they're so expensive! This Xmas I got a larger one. Here it is at BB&B.

It's meant to be narrow so it can fit better next to a counter than a round one would. We couldn't have used the smaller one much longer, because it was a pain to keep the dog out of (she could flip up the top with her nose) and it wasn't childsafe. This one's much taller & seems very sturdy. I don't think baby or dog will be able to get at the garbage.

Downside: the bags are a special size & only sold at BB&B.

Brabantia Retro Bin. I like the look of it and that it's odorproof. They recommend special bags, but regular fit just fine.

kmmommy- that is the one we have and really like it. The automatic open comes in handy when you are cooking. We got it at Sam's Club too. I noticed that they have it on Overstock.com for a little bit more. Out of all of the things in our home, guests always find this trash can so cool and comment on it. The only con I have is that I wish it was a bit larger.

Mrs M- I love the look of your trash can!

I have a Simplehuman trash can and I like it a lot. It conceals the bag and looks nice.

I do think it's kind of expensive, but we didn't buy ours, it was a wedding gift. Even if you got it at BB&B w/ a 20% off coupon, it would still be over $100.

I did find out that the stainless steel is pretty easy to clean with the Method wipes. The finish is brushed though, not shiny, so there isn't really a fingerprint issue. It's just, well, it's a trash can - it's bound to get dirty.

ETA: We use regular bags w/ no problems.

I believe I have the 40 L. You can also buy stainless steel wipes to remove fingerprints/spills.

Regular garbage bags fit fine as well.

I have the medium and the small size. HATE it! The garbage bag gets stuck inside every time we have to change it. It's so hard to pull it out!
So I'd not recommend round cans. I'm buying a rectangular next time.
