    Default Baby Engaged Early?

I just got back from my 30 week appointment to find out that the baby is head down and engaged already. Isn't it a bit early especially since this is my second pregnancy? I'm a bit nervous that I'm going to go into labour early now...is that a possibility or is it somewhat normal for the baby to be engaged this early?

With DS he dropped 2x. The 2nd time he dropped it was around 30 weeks or so, and if i remember correctly my OB said he was in place (ie: engaged) but that didn't mean that i would go into preterm labor. I felt him sitting there on my cervix with every step i took (yeah, not too comfortable!) but he waited until his due date and came on his own then.

If you're really worried, just ask your OB if he's concerned about baby being so low. Never hurts to ask.

Thanks Kim. With this baby sitting so low, it kills me to walk, not to mention chasing around a 12 month old!

    I hear ya!
I am 5mo along now and this one is sitting sooooo loooow already, it makes it uncomfortable to chase my 19mo DS around. My hoo-ha is begging for mercy already. I fear the day she drops, because when DS did both times i swear i actually hear the ker-plunk of him plopping down.

When I was pregnant w/ DS. HE was head down and engaged at around 32 weeks. It was really difficult to walk. I was really worried about going into labor early, but I ended up having him at 39 weeks pregnant...and I was induced because of GD, or else it would have been longer and I wouldn't have been able to walk because he was sooo low.

This one is already head down and been that way since at least my 30th wk. It's made walking very difficult. With DD she didn't drop until the last few wks and it was never very much at a time. This one has already dropped and is getting lower and lower (or at least it feels that way) each day. Not to scare or worry you, but I'm already contracting and dilated to a 2. We shall see how many more wks I make it. Not counting on it being very long though.

Orion- My DD engaged very early too. I want to say even before 30 weeks. Her poor little head was stuck in the birth canal from about 28 weeks on.

I also was almost 100% effaced by 37 weeks. My Dr. was so sure I was going to deliver early. I remember at my 36 week appointment she didn't think I would go another week.

I wound up having to be induced at 39 weeks just because I couldn't walk and the baby was so engaged, I was effaced and also 2 cm dialated.

I don't think your baby will come early just because he/she is engaged...but be prepared for a major cone head.

Thanks for all the replies! It makes me feel better (and not so paranoid ) knowing that there are others out there who have gone through or are going through what I am. I will try not to worry about going into labour early but man it hurts to walk and my poor husband because the thoughts of sex has me running...despite the pain of even walking!
