    Default She's on her way!

We had a really long Saturday this weekend. We got up and went to Arrena's ballet class by 9am, played at the indoor playground right after. Then, we drove downtown to a housing expo. She took an hour nap in the car, while we drove around the city looking at neighborhoods. By the time she woke up, we were headed home and it was around 2:30 or 3pm. We rested a couple of hours, then joined friends for dinner at 7pm and got home and got her to bed around 10:30pm ! (we had lousy, slow business).

All that to say.................. she had a dry day!!! She told us at least five times that she had to go potty! We used one pull up for the entire day. Amazing! Even at dinner, she told us twice when she had to go. Everyone was shocked and wanted to know how long she had been potty trained. We told them about 8 hours! But we were really proud of her.

Of course, at home, she's happy to tell you that she doesn't have to go, and actually pee while looking at you. That girl.

Kindermom and Mickey&B Thanks! And back at you, Mickey!

Yep, timing like that doesn't happen every day. We had to really plan to make sure they'd end up right on top of each other. People keep asking us what goes on 9 mos before. It's Halloween. And we don't even dress up! Maybe it's all the sugar we eat from Arrena's basket.

I am hoping he (yes, it's a boy!) comes a little bit early, just to give me a break. AFter all, it'll be ahrd enough for a 3 yr old to start to share her parents, let alone a birthday!

Yay Arrena! Great job on staying dry.

We are making slow progress in the potty training area. I hope to really get into it this summer and maybe when school starts back he will be totally trained.

Michelle - I am eager to hear how the transition from toddler to twin bed goes. I just purchased Trenton's twin bedding and 3 sheet sets so we are good to go but still not sure when we are going to do it. I was waiting closer to his 3rd birthday but we will see. Sometimes he hits his head on the sides so I know we are getting close.

Trenton is really starting to understand concepts. He asks us if we "remember" things. Sometimes he tells us he has an "idea", then shares it with us. This morning I told him not to take his socks off after I put them on him cause I was in the process of getting him ready for school and he wanted to know what "process" was. I tried my best to explain that one. We have had some problems with him repeating profanity he has heard (thanks to DH and my dad) and also shooting things with pretend guns (we have no play guns in the house since DH is a cop). I made the mistake (I guess) of taking him to a SWAT demo that DH was in and there was a lot of shooting involved (blanks). He totally loved it but now pretends it often. Right now he goes around saying "my daddy only shoots bad guys". But, all this is improving. He is learning.

Red's Girl - Wow that is amazing that Arrena was PTed so quickly and easily! That is fantastic.

Anyone else's kiddo show MINIMAL (if any) interest in PTing at this stage? Alexis used to want to sit on the potty but she never produced anything for me; she has gone a few times on the potty at daycare. But overall she isn't too interested.

I know they say you shouldn't push PTing but...our kids are almost 3....do I just keep asking her if she feels like going and then not push if she says no?

Alex we are going through the same thing with shooting pretend guns. He is fasinated with them! and we like you don't have play guns for the same reasons. I am sure he is getting it from the older boys at school. It's pretty unavoidable even if you don't ever have play guns. I usually say "in our house we don't play with guns" or "guns are not toys" any time I see him do it without really harping on it. I don't really know a better way to handle it at this point.

    way to go Arrena!

We pushed Arden. Honestly, I think a lot depends on each kid's personality and with our kid, pushing worked and we did it in one weekend and that was that. Totally worth it.

Can't remember if I posted here but Arden got into the preschool we wanted her to go to. Means she'll have to commute down toward the city with me but it's a terrific school at one of the universities and the waiting list is eons long. We're SO happy she got in. They start in Sept like a regular school year so she'll stay at her current place and transition into that preschool room next month, then move in Sept.

Other than that, things are status quo. She's still sleeping in our guest room since we never converted her crib after she screwed it up by jumping on it. Good times.

Christine, we are having NO success with potty training. Grace wants to wear underwear because she claims they are "more comfortable". We'll put them on her but she just continues to have accidents and REFUSES to sit on a potty, big or small. Like, she runs away screaming "NO"! If I could just get her to sit there?????? Any suggestions anyone???

Well...we're probably entirely opposite of AP and positive parenting in this regard, because we withheld things she likes.

"You want to watch another Dora/Diego? Well, I'm afraid you can't do that until you pee on the potty"

    "Okay"

Goes in, gets on the potty. Pees. "I want Diego."

Bribing her with offers of candy and things like that did NOTHING for her...except at school when I think she liked that her sticker chart had more stickers than anyone else's, LOL.
