Default Applying for jobs online- help!

What's the best way to email/send a resume to someone online? Is one format better than the others? I just want to make sure the resume doesn't get all misaligned when I send it. Any advice?

I always e-mail mine as a Word attachment - that way, unless something goes really screwy in the process, its still in the same format and they can open it and print it.

You can also write it into a pdf if you have that software... that way it looks exactly as you have it on your screen

pdf is the best, that way people can't see your formatting - there are a couple of sites that will allow you to make pdfs for free, including acrobat.com (http://createpdf.adobe.com/?v=AHP) (five free, I believe).

I agree - definitely use a PDF since some companies won't even accept Word docs b/c of virus fears...

I like Word or PDF. I get a lot of resumes in Word Perfect or various softwares and I can't even open them.

I have a question to add to this:

What should I write in the body of the e-mail?? Something like "Please see attached cover letter and resume for xxx position" ????????

Oh, I just saw this today -

That would be fine - just be sure that they know exactly which position you are interested in. I get resumes all the time for my "open position" I will have anywhere from 25-30 positions open all across the country at any given time.

You could add some things in the body to get them to take a look at your resume - personally, I rarely look at the cover letter but I will read the email if it is not too long.

When I worked in HR/Recruiting, we always preferred it when people included their resume in the body of their email. That way there wasn't any funky formatting to worry about when we would import it into our resume database (not only is the formatting not an issue, but it's simply easier to get the resume into the database when it's included in the body of the email).

Having said that, I would definitely follow the company's specific instructions, if they've included them.
