Default how many ounces of bm/ formula should a baby eat per day?

i know this was in another thread, but i did a search and can't find it. anyway, how many ounces of bm/ formula per day on average should my 11 wk old baby be taking in? it seems like over the last week or so her intake has dropped off from about 22-25 oz of bm a day to about 16-18 oz. is this normal? she's refusing the bottle (i exclusively pump) a lot. not finishing her bottles and taking in only 1 or 2 oz at a time and generally getting really fussy many times when you try to feed her.

    your thoughts?

    thanks!

Typically you can multiply the baby's weight by 2 and 2.5 to get a good range. For example, a 10-pound baby would probably take between 20 and 25 oz. per day.

It's an estimate, but I think it's the best system I've seen so far.

ETA -- is she willing to eat more frequently? She may be gearing up for a growth spurt, and she's programmed to want to eat small meals at short intervals during a spurt....

not really. i'm offering her the bottle just about every hour b/c she's just not eating much. i did my best guestimate and i think she's had about 16 oz in the last 24 hours. she's peeing and pooping, though. now i'm writing down exactly how much she's eating in case i'm just being paranoid. she's roughly 10 pounds so the nurse at her peds office said she would expect her to take in about 20 oz. so they want to see her tomorrow to do a weight check and just be certain everything is ok.

i'm also wondering if it could be a developmental issue. over the last 2 weeks she's really figured out who we are and that we're fun which has meant she's been fighting us on sleep. now i'm wondering if the same thing isn't going on with eating. like she's too distracted by all the new stuff she just figured out?

It could be. DD had/has days where she eats more than others...a few days around 5 months she dropped from about 32-35 ounces per day to about 22...the doctor told me as long as she was still peeing and pooping and seemed to act OK, not to worry.

Keeping track is probably a good idea....she could be coming off of a growth spurt or she could just be so excited about hanging out with mommy and daddy!

I'm going through the same situation w/ my son, the only difference is he is 8 months old. The last couple of days he's be refusing his bottle during the day. We've been trying to squeeze a bottle in during the night, even then he still refuses.

My DD has been taking in about 10 oz in and 8 hour span at daycare. She is 9 months old and 16 pounds I don't know if this is normal or not...I know she doesn't drink 32 oz of milk a day

we're taking her to the ped just to check her out today. they also want to be certain she didn't somehow get thrush from me (even though i was exclusively pumping, i still had it for 7+ wks.) or that her reflux medication doesn't need to be adjusted.

she's been eating better this morning, but i still feel like she just doesn't have the same interest/ vigor with the eating and i'm kind of having to convince her to eat. but other than this, she is totally normal.

It's probably just temporary for her. My DD never ate 2 times her weight like all the books and websites recommend!! They will eat when they are hungry!! My DD is almost 10 months old and she takes around 24oz a day. She is also on 3 meals of solids but even before that, she really never took much more than that!

My DD is doing the same exact thing. She is 3 months old and recently has dropped the amount she is eating. Some days she will eat about 20 oz, and others its less. I know she is growing, and is not crying at all so is just to busy these days to actually eat a whole meal. I offer her the bottle all the time as I want to make sure she is eating more, but she is wetting diapers and is happy I am trying not to worry about it. As long as she is content I am satisfied.

I was just wondering about this very thing. When I took her in last at her 6 mo. appt, the ped said she should be eating 24 oz. of formula per day. So I've been splitting it up 6 oz 4 times a day. Now that she is 8 months and eating more solid food, should her formula intake be the same or less (or more according to the 2 X the weight thing)?? She's almost 17 pounds. I can't see her drinking 34 oz i think the feeding aspect has been the hardest thing for me to figure out being a first time mom.
